| Since we now have a modern appearance for the Angry Sun, I was wondering if we should make that the new picture for the article. Since the NSMBU style is the "modern look" for 2D Mario games, I believe it's safe to assume that this is the look the Angry Sun will have for now on. | :::OK, first off, why are people still insisting "Angry" should be a necessary attribute? Need I remind y'all that the "Angry" part of the name was Nintendo Power's invention, and as such the Japanese developers are under no obligation to follow that, as it is just "sun" (or technically "taiyo") in Japan. Sorry if I'm being a bit of a jerk about this, I've had to explain this on The Spriters Resource like 10 times now and am at my limit with it. | ::::Well... it's being used in game now. Does it matter if it's a Nintendo Power name when the sprite looks terrible anyway? 14:09, August 6, 2019 (EDT) | | ::::Well... it's being used in game now. | :::::First off: It's being used in the English-language setting, i's still just "taiyo" in the Japanese-language setting. Secondly, that's terribly subjective. I think using a mesoamerican influence (almost as if to converge it with the Paper Mario sun) is an interesting idea. Anyways, for shame, attempting to push opinion as fact. <s>Besides, it's better stylized than most of Superstar Sagas garbage designs, and people outright praise those.</s> Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:51, August 6, 2019 (EDT) | | :::::First off: It's being used in the English-language setting, i's still just "taiyo" in the Japanese-language setting. | I support this. NSMBU represents modern designs, and this is the sun's modern design. It's really strange, but we do have a high quality sprite of it. 14:13, August 6, 2019 (EDT) | | I support this. | I guess I am gonna have to be the one to say nay, mainly for the simple reason that it is a design original to Super Mario Maker 2 and there is no other game as of now that corroborates with this unique design, since each of the five styles are presented as valid interpretations and for all we know it is still subject to change even in a 3D style (see Boom Boom's design difference between New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World game styles). If it for some reason was not available in the New Super Mario Bros. U style, would we still want to use the sprite for the Super Mario World style, despite being nonexistent in that game and being just about as new as its Super Mario Bros. style sprite? Also, new content in the Super Mario Maker games was created to be hypothetical to that style, and the same should go for this enemy. The former Mario Kart series image is a 3D game design that is much more representative of literally all other appearances. | :And designs have changed since then, such as Pokey's. Redesigns are redesigns. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:43, August 7, 2019 (EDT)

| ::Yes, but does it really count if it is (as of now) merely a design hypothetical to one nonexistent game appearance? LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:00, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
| |
| :::I'm not sure if hypothetical is the right term to be using here. Yes, it's hypothetical for what that enemy could've looked like in that particular game, but it is still a legitimate design used in a legitimate game, not a scrapped design in concept art. -- 17:04, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
| |
| ::::I'm pretty sure the "use normal design" rule is actually saying don't use designs that are from games with a generally unusual art style, like Woolly World or a M&L/PM game. This is a Super Mario game. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:08, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
| |
| :::::Right, but because of the game's nature, this new design coexists with three other styles, so it's not supplanting the original in this game. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:15, August 7, 2019 (EDT)
| |
| ::::::And those other styles are for games that predate the MK appearance, like with the Rocky Wrenches in all SMM games that have shells in styles predating the <s>lazy</s> redesign in NSMBW. Note that two of them were introduced in that game, and neither was the "unshelled" one. | == Why is it not notable that it has been a significantly long time since the Angry Sun appeared as an enemy? ==
| |
|
| |
| It keeps getting removed, and while it has been repeatedly called not notable, I have absolutely no clue as to how it isn’t. According to this page, its only appearances as an enemy in a mainline game are Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Maker 2. Is it because it being in Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii count as enemy appearances? If that’s the case, should it still probably still be noted, as there was still a 15 year long gap between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Mario Kart DS? Its only other appearances were sprite cameos in Mario Kart 7, 8, and Tour, and a cartoon from the 90’s. 184.181.98.125 01:48, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

| :Because we're moving away from that sort of writing. Things appear, they appear again. We only really note that when it's had among the largest of appearance gaps, which it doesn't. You also missed All-Stars and Advance 4 in that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:52, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

| :Also, calling a long absence is inaccurate since it's appeared repeatedly in the spinoff games. -- 01:58, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

| == Super Mario Bros. 3 remakes ==
| |
|
| |
| I noticed in the two remakes of Super Mario Bros. 3, the Angry Sun has an error in the second frame of animation where the tiles in the bottom corners are arranged incorrectly. I feel like that information should be included somewhere on this Wiki.
