'''''Super Mario Adventures''''' was a ''Mario'' comic that was published in the [[Nintendo Power]] magazine, beginning in 1992. It featured many of the [[enemies]] and [[characters]] from the game ''[[Super Mario World]]'', but had an original, quite humorous storyline. After its run in Nintendo Power, it was published in graphic novel form. In this form, a bonus comic, ''[[Mario vs. Wario]]'', was added.

'''''Super Mario Adventures''''' is a comic in the [[Super Mario (franchise)|''Super Mario'' franchise]] that was originally serialized in ''[[Nintendo Power]]'' in twelve installments in the January to December 1992 issues alongside the comic ''[[zeldawiki:The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Ishinomori)|The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past]]''. ''Super Mario Adventures'' was later serialized in Japan through ''{{wp|CoroCoro Comic}}'' in 1993. The comic was written by {{wp|Kentaro Takekuma}} and illustrated by {{wp|Tamakichi Sakura|Charlie Nozawa}}. While the comic tells a largely unique story, it is heavily inspired by ''[[Super Mario World]]'', featuring many of the same [[List of enemies|enemies]] and [[List of characters|characters]].

After the comic's run in ''Nintendo Power'', the ten parts were collected as a graphic novel, which could be ordered through the July 1993 issue, celebrating the magazine's 50th issue and fifth anniversary.<ref>[https://archive.org/stream/Nintendo_Power_Issue_050_July_1993#page/n99/mode/2up ''Nintendo Power'' Issue 50, page 97] (July 1993). ===Popping Pillars of Pipe?===
[[File:Super Mario Adventures Mario Bros Plumbing.jpg|thumb|150px|Mario and Luigi arrive at the castle and fix the plumbing.]]
[[Image:Sma.jpg|thumb|right|120px]]
[[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] arrive at [[Peach's Castle|the palace]] of the [[Mushroom Kingdom]], where a party is scheduled to take place in the evening. There is a huge mess in the plumbing, however; all the pipes are mixed up and disconnected. The Mario Bros. quickly get to work (Luigi getting stuck in the mess) and eventually clean up the plumbing except for a disconnected [[Warp Pipe|green pipe]] that they had not seen before. Mario then finds a giant pipe that also was not there before and peeks inside, only for a [[Jumping Piranha Plant]] to leap up and chomp on his nose. At that moment, more large pipes start popping out of the ground, and Mario and Luigi flee the basement, only to find that numerous pipes have already sprung up in the courtyard.
Mario and Luigi arrive at the [[Princess Peach's Castle|Princess' castle]], where a party is scheduled to take place in the evening. Unfortunately, there is a huge mess in the plumbing; all the [[Warp Pipe|pipe]]s are mixed up and disconnected. The Mario bros. quickly get to work, eventually clearing out the mess, leaving only one disconnected green pipe that they had not seen before. Suddenly, a very large green pipe pops out of the ground. Mario peeks inside and promptly is snapped on the nose by a [[Piranha Plant]]. At that moment, [[Princess Peach|Princess Toadstool]] is playing ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' in the courtyard, accompanied by her faithful [[Toad (species)|Toad]] courtiers. One of the Toad guards runs up with some very important news: Gigantic pipes are popping up everywhere. The Toad courtiers are dubious ("Popping pillars of pipe? Preposterous!!")

Meanwhile, [[Princess Peach|Princess Toadstool]] is playing [[Super Mario Bros.|a video game]] in the castle, accompanied by her attendants. One of her guards then appears with the news that pipes have appeared all over the castle. Various enemies then start appearing out of the pipes and attack the [[Toad (species)|Mushroom guards]], while Mario and Luigi are completely surrounded. A [[Galoomba|Goomba]] and a Jumping Piranha Plant attack Luigi, but Mario jumps on them to save him. Mario then has an idea: He pulls up a pipe that Luigi kicks a Goomba into, then puts the other end in his mouth and spits it back out at the enemies to beat them. At that moment, however, a giant pipe shoots out of the ground, and [[Bowser]], in his [[Koopa Clown Car|Clown Copter]], appears out of it.

===Issue 33 (February 1992)===
After testing his microphone, Bowser starts to rap, telling Princess Toadstool that he wants to rule the Mushroom Kingdom and that the only way they will live peacefully is if she marries him. The princess is outraged, but Bowser gives her time to think about her choice, threatening that if she refuses, he will turn her people to stone, petrifying some of the guards as an example. The Toads remind themselves that they have Mario and Luigi on their side, but they find that Mario has also been turned to stone, causing the princess to explode in anger. Bowser leaves the castle down the same pipe, and the princess leaps out the window, intending to chase after him. After she calls some troops to her side, they go down the pipe, intending to try to negotiate with Bowser.

Meanwhile, Luigi is trying to get Mario to return to normal. The Toad attendants, however, have the idea to call the [[Minister of Massage]], who massages the stone Mario. One week later, Mario is back to normal. Coming to his senses, he remembers Bowser, and the Toads tell him that he left back down the pipe, with the princess chasing after him. Mario and Luigi jump down the pipe themselves, and after a while, they appear out the other end, in the sky over a jungle. After a rough landing, Luigi gets his head wedged into the ground. Mario pulls him up to reveal a [[Yoshi's Egg|giant egg]]. Finding themselves hungry, the Mario Bros. try to cook the egg, but it suddenly hatches into [[Yoshi|a dinosaur]].

===Issue 34 (March 1992)===
After the dinosaur hatches, the Mario Bros. cower away from it. They believe that it wants to eat them as it approaches.

Meanwhile, Princess Toadstool and her troops are in the desert, with their supply of water gone. One of the troops tries to tell Toadstool that the search is ridiculous. Just as he points out that there are no clouds in the sky, clouds suddenly start appearing. Toadstool's companions attempt a rain dance, but the clouds are soon revealed to be [[Lakitu]]s, who attack them with [[Spiny|Spinies]].

Back in the jungle, Luigi is running away from the dinosaur. He finally finds Mario, hiding in a bush, but when Luigi joins him, Luigi finds himself sitting on a [[Wiggler|giant caterpillar]]. Mario tries to save Luigi, but stomping on the caterpillar's head only makes it angry, and as they run, they find the approaching dinosaur. They prepare for the worst, but instead, the dinosaur grabs the caterpillar with its tongue and tries to eat it. Realizing they are fine, the brothers try to sneak away as the dinosaur and caterpillar fight, but the dinosaur soon finishes its meal and notices the brothers. As they plead for the dinosaur not to eat them, it starts to speak (though only through the word "Yoshi"), and they realize that it is not hostile. Mario and Luigi hop on its back, and the dinosaur carries them away.

The dinosaur and the Mario Bros. arrive at a village full of other dinosaurs. At first, Mario and Luigi are very nervous, but soon after, they find another human, who introduces himself as a salesman named [[Friendly Floyd]]. Floyd tells them that they are in [[Yoshi Village]] and that their dinosaur companion is Yoshi, the "Chairman of the Dino Chamber of Commerce." After the Mario Bros. ask why Yoshi was trapped in an egg, Floyd, interpreting for Yoshi, explains that it was "Koopa's curse"; some of the villagers were kidnapped, and when Yoshi went to save them, Bowser sealed him in an egg. As the situation has been bad for business, Floyd offers to sell the Mario Bros. something, to which Mario replies that they need a Yoshi interpreter. Floyd cannot stay with them, but he instead offers ''ACME's Yoshi Language Learner'' for 3,000 coins, which (after the brothers call it a rip-off) he quickly lowers to ten coins. The brothers buy the book, and after Floyd leaves, they are mad when they learn from the book that every word and phrase translates to "Yoshi." However, one of Toadstool's guards stumbles into the village and collapses, telling Mario and Luigi that Bowser has captured the princess.

[[File:Ludwig_playing_videogame.jpg|thumb|120px|Ludwig and the other Koopalings playing a video game]]
[[File:SuperMarioAdventuresWendy.gif|120px|thumb|left|Toadstool fleeing from Wendy's forces]]
At the [[Koopalings]]' tower, [[Ludwig]] and the others are playing a video game when the screen cuts to a video feed of Bowser, who explains to them that he has proposed to Princess Toadstool. At that moment, his chef shows him the model for his wedding cake, stating that the actual cake will be twice as big, though Bowser wants it even bigger. He then reminds the Koopalings to make sure the princess does not escape, but they have already switched back to playing the game, prompting Bowser to yell at them (destroying the screen in the process). [[Lemmy]] points out that the princess is still safely in her cell, but they suddenly see that she is gone and quickly open the cell to check. Toadstool, however, has actually perched herself on the ceiling and drops down on them, knocking them out and escaping. However, she is confronted by [[Wendy]] and several guards, who chase after her.

Mario, Luigi, and [[Toad]] have arrived outside the castle, Toad saying that he saw Bowser's forces take Toadstool inside. Mario tries to swim across the moat, but he is attacked by [[Urchin]]s, [[Fish Bone]]s, and [[Porcupuffer]]s (which the moat is filled with).

Back in the tower, Toadstool reaches Wendy's room, fending off the guards by throwing furniture at them and stopping Wendy by threatening to tear apart one of her outfits. The other Koopalings then arrive, and [[Roy]] charges at the princess, but she grabs a [[cape]] and dodges him. She climbs onto the windowsill to escape, but she hesitates after seeing how high up she is. The Koopalings charge at her, and the princess loses her balance and slips.
But, when they look out the window, they find it is true; not only are there pipes littering the palace yard, but at that moment, tons of monsters (all from ''Super Mario World'') including [[Monty Mole]]s, [[Swoop]]s, and [[Goomba]]s, shoot out of the plumbing. Mario and Luigi come up with an unique idea. Mario sticks a pipe in his mouth, wedges a Goomba in, Luigi jumps on his back, and the Goomba goes flying, obliterating all the other monsters.

===Issue 36 (May 1992)===
But just as the Princess and the Toads think that the castle is safe, a gigantic pipe shoots out of the ground, which contains [[Bowser]] in his [[Koopa Clown Car]]. Bowser, after testing the mic in his hand, (and getting a gong bang from his [[Koopalings|kids]]) begins rapping. The message is that Bowser wants to rule the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] now, and he intends to do this by marriage to Toadstool. Of course, the Princess refuses and says that it will only happens in Bowser's dreams and her nightmares. However, Bowser tells her to think about it.
As the princess falls down the tower, the cape suddenly catches her, allowing her to float to safety. Meanwhile, Mario and his group are walking around the moat when they find Friendly Floyd, who is trying to sell lipstick to a [[Piranha Plant]]. They decide to ignore him, and Luigi sits down, not realizing he is sitting on a [[Bill Blaster|cannon]]. Mario knocks him off and is caught as it fires a [[Bullet Bill]], sending him flying toward the tower and directly past Toadstool, causing her to lose control. Mario then crashes into Wendy's room (the Koopalings surprised to find him), while the princess lands in the woods, with Luigi and the others finding her unconscious.

Bowser is infuriated that Toadstool has escaped. He roars at the Koopalings, and as they make excuses, his anger causes him to smash the room he is in. Wendy, however, reassures him by telling him they have captured someone even better: Mario.
He announces he'll be back in two weeks for her ''final'' decision, and to make the deal go a little more his way, he proclaims that if the answer is no, all her people will be turned to stone, giving her a demo on the Toads nearest him! Toadstool becomes extremely upset at this, and tries reasoning with the Koopa King. But Bowser, seeing as he's got her "over a barrel", so to speak, chuckles at her and rockets back down his pipe with the Koopalings. Toadstool becomes enraged and, with some of her faithful Toad courtiers, goes down the pipe too, hoping to strike a compromise with the King.

While Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi try to wake up Toadstool, two [[Mechakoopa]]s come up in a boat. They announce that Mario is being held prisoner and that they want the princess in exchange, demonstrating what will happen to Mario by burning a doll if the group does not comply. Suddenly, Friendly Floyd appears, advertising his new makeup line. Luigi denounces it at first, but he suddenly has an idea and heads into the bushes with everyone. A moment later, Toadstool reappears and heads across the lake with the Mechakoopas. As soon as she enters the tower, the Koopalings take her.
Meanwhile, the Toads are trying to find the Mario bros. to warn them about the Princess's departure, but a calamity has struck!
Mario has been turned into a statue too! Luigi, however, doesn't seem to notice the difference, only that Mario isn't talking and is extremely stiff. One of the Toads saves the day by calling up the [[Minister of Massage]], a mystic Toad who works wonders on the stone Mario and, one week later, a light comes from him, then an explosion, and when it goes, Mario is back to his old self.

===Meeting Yoshi.. and Meeting Lakitu!===
[[File:ToadYoshiSMA.JPG|thumb|left|Toad and Yoshi in disguises to fool the Koopalings]]
After hearing the news about Toadstool, the bros. race down the huge pipe after her. The pipe is extremely long, and, unfortunately, dangles in the clouds high above the Koopa Kingdom. After a rough landing, Luigi gets his head wedged into the ground. Mario pulls him up to reveal a giant, green egg. They are quite hungry, so they begin a cookout. But the heat has a strange affect upon the egg, and moments later, a little green dinosaur (which is Yoshi) pops out of it, happily screaming.
[[File:Special delivery.png|200px|thumb|Toadstool, dressed as Luigi, and Floyd ambush the Koopalings.]]
Mario and Princess Toadstool's wedding takes place in a church. Floyd, as the pastor, does the ceremony, but just as they are about to kiss, the princess whirls around to find Mario, having been captured by Bowser's minions, and turns back around to see Bowser trying to kiss her. The princess then wakes up and realizes what happened was only a nightmare. However, she panics and runs when she sees Yoshi, and yet again when she runs into Friendly Floyd. Seeing her Toad bodyguard, she finally calms down and remembers how she saw Mario zooming past her when she was flying. She realizes that Mario is nowhere to be seen, and Toad tells her that he is a prisoner. She dashes toward the castle to go save him, but Toad tells her that she will ruin Luigi's plan, at which point she realizes she is wearing his clothes.

Inside the tower, Bowser congratulates the Koopalings on bringing back Toadstool (who is wearing a surgical mask). Ludwig tells him that she will not accept his proposal, but the princess tells Bowser that she loves him and will marry him. Bowser is happy, but he points out that her voice sounds weird, though she says that she has a cold. She then asks to be untied, to which Bowser agrees, and he cheers after turning off communications.
At that same moment, in the Koopahari Desert, Toadstool and Co. are hootfooting it to Bowser's Castle. Unfortunately, their supply of water is gone. The Toad leader tries to tell the princess that the search is ridiculous, and that there's not a cloud in the sky, but just then a cloud appears an the sizzling sky. The Toads rejoice to perform a rain dance but the clouds are soon revealed to be [[Lakitu]] hideouts.

Meanwhile, Mario is sitting in his cell when Luigi appears, revealing to him that he has disguised himself as Toadstool (though Mario laughs at him). When Wendy appears, Luigi asks what she and the other Koopalings are going to do with Mario, and she tells him that they plan to feed him to the piranhas. After an initial shock, Luigi changes the subject and offers to order pizza, to which the Koopalings agree. He calls Toad and Yoshi, disguised as pizza delivery men, who head to the tower with their "delivery." As they arrive in the tower, however, the box opens, revealing the actual Princess Toadstool and Friendly Floyd with several bombs.
Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi have become terrified of the dinosaur, thinking that their lunch is hungry for them! After shooting off from the dino, Luigi collapses with Mario underneath a bush, which turns out to be a [[Wiggler]]'s home! Mario tries to "save" (the Wiggler isn't attacking him) Luigi, but when stomped on, the king caterpillar gets all the more upset! Racing away, they find Yoshi blocking their exit, but the cute lil' dino slurps up half the Wiggler, stuns the other half, and has a delicious dinner. Then approaching the bros., he motions for them to get on his back, and awaaaay they go!

===Issue 38 (July 1992)===
'''LOCATION: YOSHI VILLAGE'''<br>
Toadstool threatens to blow up the tower if the Koopalings do not free Mario. The Koopalings, however, are confused that there are two Princess Toadstools until Luigi reveals himself. As they try to charge, Toadstool pulls a match threateningly, though Wendy calls her a bluff. While the Koopalings are distracted, however, Luigi sneaks over to Roy and steals the keys to Mario's cell from him. He leaps over Roy when he dives for him, but he ends up jumping into the ceiling and drops the keys, which Toad catches. As the Koopalings chase him, he throws the keys to Yoshi, and as he runs away, he stealthily passes the keys to Luigi, who gets to work on freeing Mario, though he cannot find the right key.
Yoshi and the bros. arrive at a village filled with the little dinosaurs. At first, Mario and Luigi are extremely nervous ("I hope that they're not discussing ways to ''cook'' us!" gulps Luigi) but their fears fade when they see another human. He introduces himself as [[Friendly Floyd]], the salesman who can sell ''anyone anything''. Right now, he's selling the gullible Yoshis light bulbs. As it turns out, he can interpret the Yoshi dialect, and he tells the bros. that the Yoshi they are riding is the Chairman of the Dino Chamber of Commerce. Why was the D.C. Chairman trapped in an egg? On account of Bowser's curse! When some villagers were yoshinapped,  their friend went to rescue them, but he happened upon Bowser, who sealed him into the egg. The brothers are astonished, and decide that they need an interpreter. Folyd seems not to want to hang around, so he sells them an "Acme Yoshi Learner" instead for 3000 coins. "3000!!" scream the bros. "What a rip-off!" Floyd hastily makes it 10 "since they're friends of Yoshi". After F.F. beats it, they open the book and find... Every word translates to "Yoshi"! Mario explodes with anger, but suddenly, they realize that a Toad has stumbled into the village! It's the Princesses' guard [[Toad]], and through him, they soon learn that she is now Bowser's captive!

The Koopalings continue to chase Yoshi, but they cannot catch him (while Floyd tries to sell them medical supplies, which Toadstool stops). Wendy finally trips Yoshi, sending him crashing into the others, and she drops [[Thwomp]]s onto them. Meanwhile, Luigi finally unlocks Mario's cell, but he must now find the right key to release the ball and chain on Mario's leg. Wendy sends a horde of [[Chargin' Chuck]]s after the group, but Toadstool once again threatens to use the bomb. Wendy insists that she is bluffing, but the princess states that she is more than willing to sacrifice herself to stop them (Wendy calling her crazy for it). However, Mario has finally been freed and takes out the Chargin' Chucks, though the Koopalings send him, Luigi, Yoshi, Toadstool, and Toad down into a dungeon below, where [[Reznor]]s start attacking them with fireballs. One of them lights the fuse on the bomb, which explodes, destroying the tower.
===Meanwhile, On the Other Side of the Koopa Kingdom..===
At the Koopa headquarters, the [[Koopalings]] are watching Ludwig von Koopa play what appears to be "Super Bowser Bros." Ludwig stomps a Mario, and sends it flying into a long line of others for a 1-Up. (Ironically, this is the exact opposite of what [[Princess Toadstool]] did in the first chapter.) "Music to my ears!" exclaims Ludwig, and the TV screen bleeps out and the face of Bowser appears, yelling to "keep [[Image:Ludwig_playing_videogame.jpg|thumb|120px|Ludwig playing videogames in Super Mario Adventures]][[Image:Sma comic 3.jpg|120px|thumb|left|Peach running through the corridoors and throwing articles of clothing.]]
this video line OPEN!" He then tells them that he has, of all things, PROPOSED to Princess Toadstool! Just then, his chef shows him the ''colossal'' wedding cake model. He tells the Koopa King that it "will be twice as big, with chocolate". Bowser decides he'd rather have it ''100'' time bigger, and turns to tell the Koopalings that he wants them to keep an eye on his "bride-to-be", but realizes that they're playing again! "DO YOU HEAR ME!?!" he roars, somehow sticking his head, in classic cartoon form, through the monitor into their room. "Is he tense, or what?" ask [[Lemmy Koopa]], pulling his his head out of the floor. "She's safely beyond bars!" Or is she? When Lemmy peeps in, she's GONE! They all pile in, wondering ''how'' she could possibly pulled it off. But meanwhile, dangling overhead, the Princess balances herself on the cell ceiling... "HEEEEE-YAAAAH!" she screams, preforming a surprise attack on the awestruck Koopa Kids. "Take that"! she cries, karate chopping them and knocking them out. She then races for the cell door, locking them in their own prison! She's safe! But at that moment, [[Wendy O. Koopa]], Bowser's "favorite", runs in with her personal army of [[Koopa Troopas]]! Toadstool runs for cover, but soon finds herself cornered in Wendy's own room! She desperately throws some articles of clothing at the Koopas then threatens to shred Wendy's favorite sweater! She grabs a cape from the closet and impersonates a bullfighters, sending [[Roy Koopa]] caterwauling into the wall. With the cape, she steps onto a windowsill and bids them good-bye, but loses her balance and plummets to the ground! Fortunately, she is able to use her cape Super Mario World style, and begins to carefully float outside the moat.

===Issue 39 (August 1992)===
'''LOCATION: OUTSIDE THE FORTRESS MOAT<br>
[[File:Sma comic4.jpg|thumb|left|150px|The "rescue party"]]
Meanwhile, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad have arrived outside Wendy's castle. The Toad saw the Koopas take her in, but they need a way to get across the huge moat! Mario tries swimming, but, as he soon finds, much to his discomfort, the water is filed with ferocious [[Fishbone]]s, [[Porcu-Puffer]]s, and [[Urchin]]s. The bros. decide to move on to "Plan B"... ("Code name, Survival" Luigi adds nervously.) When they turn around, lo and behold, their old friend Floyd is here too, selling lipstick to a female Piranha Plant! The bros. decide to "scram, before he pulls another scam!" After beating it, Luigi sits down on a black, cannon-like object. Mario yells for him to get off, but too late! The cannon is revealed as a [[Bill Blaster]], who shoots a [[Bullet Bill]] toward the castle! Mario, who was trying to shove it back in, gets shot with it! On his wild way to the castle, Mario spots Toadstool shooting toward the ground with the cape! Mario shoots straight into the castle, where the Koopalings are ''more'' than happy to welcome him! The Princess shoots straight to the ground in a crash-landing, out cold.
In the explosion, Mario and the group are sent flying away and land in the forest, across the moat. The princess insists that Luigi should give her clothes back, while Friendly Floyd leaves after the group refuses to buy more bombs. The five characters cheer as they start on their way back to the Mushroom Kingdom, their journey seemingly at an end.

[[File:SMAdventures Bowser Toad.PNG|thumb|right|150px|Mario and Luigi "rescued" by "[[Bowser|Toad]]"]]
'''LOCATION: WENDY'S CASTLE (again)'''<br>
However, Mario stops the group when he remembers that they arrived where they are through the pipe, which is hanging in the sky. Although Luigi, Toadstool, and Toad panic at first, Toad thinks to use the cape to fly back to the Mushroom Kingdom and send a rescue team for the group. The other characters send him off, and later in the day, their rescue party arrives. As they climb up the ladder leading into the pipe, however, the leading Toad kicks Mario back down and slices it, sending Mario and Luigi falling back to the ground. The Toad then reveals himself to be Bowser and takes the princess back up the pipe, which is revealed to be part of a ship hiding itself in the clouds, Toad revealing that Bowser's forces have taken control of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi try to chase after them, but Bowser sends [[Koopa Paratroopa]]s to stop them. Mario is able to jump on them, while Yoshi starts eating them, growing a pair of wings after eating one with a [[Blue Shell|blue shell]]. Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi try to fly after Bowser, but they have lost him, and when Mario asks Yoshi where Bowser went, Yoshi spits out the shell to answer, and they fall to the ground. Picking themselves up after the crash landing, they find that they have landed in front of a [[Ghost House|gloomy-looking house]].
Bowser is boiling, fuming, and explosive over the newfound fact that his bride has escaped! He roars at his kids ("KOOPA BRATS!" he calls them) and they hurriedly make excuses, Lemmy Koopa telling him "She would've been a lousy wife anyway, Pop." "SILENCE!!" roars Bowser, blowing his top. His anger is so great, it smashes the entire room he is in! "Mellow out, Dad!" cries Wendy. "We may have lost the Princess, but we found someone even better!" Mario is in the prison cell, mumbling through his gag "You rotten Koopa brats!!"

===Issue 40 (September 1992)===
'''LOCATION: OUTSIDE THE FORTRESS MOAT (again)'''<br>
The Mario Bros. decide to inspect the house, unaware that they are being watched by Bowser and the Koopalings with a camera mounted to the house. The brothers see that nobody is inside, so Luigi tries to go in, believing that it is someone's vacation retreat. Mario, however, grabs him by the overalls, insisting that he has a weird feeling about the house. The Koopalings gasp, believing that the trap is not going to work. Bowser then explains that the Mario Bros. are too tired and hungry not to go inside, and Mario simultaneously states that he believes it is a trap. Panicking, Bowser presses a button to activate his "trump card." As Mario is leaving, Luigi insisting that he is paranoid, they start to smell provolone, drawing Luigi inside. Mario and Yoshi chase after him, shouting at Luigi to stop, but Yoshi gets caught in the door and Mario is knocked off into the house as a metal door slams down from above, shutting Yoshi out and trapping the brothers inside. Bowser, pleased that his plan worked out, skips off to continue planning his "perfect wedding."
While Luigi, Toad and Yoshi try to revive th Princess, two [[Mechakoopa]]s come up in a boat. They announce that Mario is being held a prisoner, and that if they fail to put the Princess into their boat, Luigi's brother will pay, giving them all a demo on the Mario doll they brought with them. Toad announces that it's blackmail, but the stubborn robot turtles keep insisting. Suddenly, who should burst in on the scene but Friendly Floyd! "Howdy, howdy, ''howdy''! How do you like the book?" he asks cheerfully, advertising the new makeup line that "could turn a frog into a prince!" Luigi announces that he needs a miracle, not a makeover! Floyd still persists with his tagline of "create a new you!" "NEW ME?!? I need a ''miracle''!" Luigi shouts, but suddenly, a lightbulb flashes above his head. He asks the Mechakoopas to be excused for a moment, and he, the Princess, and Yoshi head into the bushes nearby. Luigi grabs Floyd too, needing his kit for some reason. A moment later, Toadstool comes out, fully conscious, and asks casually "How do I look?" Meanwhile, in the castle, Bowser's bratty offspring are examining the goings-on with a telescope. "She's on her way! IT WORKED!" they cry with glee, eager over their victory. But, when the Princess is brought in, she cries for some reason "FLOYD! YOU'D BETTER COME THROUGH ''THIS'' TIME!"

As Mario wanders the halls, calling for Luigi, a [[Boo]] appears behind him. Mario notices quickly and turns around. However, the Boo stops and hides its face. As Mario inspects it, asking if it was following him, a second Boo floats towards Mario and bites him on the bottom, angering him. As he faces the second Boo, the first one quickly bites him. Mario races away with the Boos giggling behind him.
===A Splendid Plan===
Toads from all over are racing to a church for.. Mario and Toadstool's wedding! Floyd, as the pastor, does the ceremony, but just as they get close for the kiss.. Toadstool feels a shiver of air, and Mario is in a cage being carried off by Koopas and Ninjis! She turns around to find Bowser leaning toward her, lips puckered! Suddenly, Toadstool wakes up (the ceremony was all a dream) to find herself staring into Yoshi's face! Not knowing who he is, she "runs for her life", to come face-to-face with Friendly Floyd! She runs away again, screaming. ("WAIT! You haven't seen my new line of makeup!" Floyd shouts after her). Seeing her Toad bodyguard, she finally calms down and remembers how she saw Mario zooming past her when she was flying. She suddenly realizes that Mario is nowhere to be seen, and Toad tells her that he is now a prisoner! She dashes toward the castle, but is held back by Toad, who yells the "You'll spoil Luigi's plan!" Suddenly, she realizes that she is wearing Luigi's overalls!!

Meanwhile, Luigi has followed the scent to a room with a huge piece of provolone being aired by a huge fan. Luigi is suspicious for a moment about the fan, then exclaims that the situation is too good to pass up. As he eats the cheese, a large horde of Boos starts to slowly gather behind him. At the last second, Mario appears and warns him of the Boos inches behind him. When Luigi turns around, he panics and runs away with Mario. The Boos corner the brothers against a wall, so the brothers slide along it, keeping their eyes on the Boos. Eventually, they slide until they reach a hallway, unaware that a [[Big Boo]] is behind them.

'''LOCATION: WENDY'S CASTLE (once again)''' Bowser congratulates his kids on bringing back his bride, and tells them to take very good care of her. They all agree, but Ludwig tells his dad that it's not very likely that she'll say yes to the marriage. But then, a miracle happens! Toadstool tells Bowser that she will marry him, and that she really does love him!! Bowser's head almost implodes with his joy, and wonders why she has a cloth over her mouth. She tells them that she's sick, but this just makes the King want to give her a kiss. She hurriedly refuses, telling them that she doesn't want them all to get the "koopa croup", and simply asks to be untied. King Bowser grants her request, solemnly turns off the monitor, turns to the Koopa chef, and yells at the top of his lungs "SHE LOVES ME! IT'S THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!! ALL RIGHT!!!", completely destroying the cake model behind him that the Koopas were trying to fix. Meanwhile, Mario is sitting in his cell, when suddenly Toadstool appears as Luigi. "HMF M HEFHUF! HIMF IF FU, FEE! (What a getup! Pink is you, Luigi!)" Mario mumbles through the cloth tied around his face. "I do think it flatters my complexion!" Peach giggles, trying to unlock the cell door, when suddenly Wendy walks in, bellowing "Princess! Are you lost?" Luigi quickly whips around, covering his face in the process. "What are you going to do with him?" he asks casually. "The Piranhas are always hungry. He'll make a fine meal!" W. O. replies nonchalantly, while Mario turns purple with rage. Luigi quickly changes the subject, suggesting ordering pizza! Everybody is enthusiastic about this (they even begin calling him Mom!), and the Princess impersonator calls it in. But all is not as it seems, as the Toad outside (now wearing a fake afro) announces to Yoshi "We have a delivery to make!" The Koopalings spot the duo on their way, and open the drawbridge. They eagerly open the huge box... And out bursts Princess Toadstool in Luigi's overalls, and Friendly Floyd cowering alongside. "SPECIAL DELIVERY!" screams the Princess, as the Koopaling's eyeballs fairly bug out of their sockets.

===Issue 41 (October 1992)===
"Free Mario, or be blown to pieces!" Toadstool orders, as the Bowser's kids teeter in confusion. "TWO of them?! Am I seeing double?" asks Windy, "DOUBLE TROUBLE! Which is real?" yelps Lemmy. But their question is answered for them when they turn around to see Luigi has pulled off his mask! The Koopalings are, to say the very least, quite indignant, and race for the "real" Toadstool. But she threatens them with a bomb and a match, telling them to stay back, or bombs away! Wendy, though, calls her bluff, reminding her that she'll go down, or rather, UP, with the rest of them if she lights the fuse! While the Princess is distracted with the loudmouthed Wendy, Luigi sneaks up on Roy Koopa and makes off with his keys! "STEALTH ATTACK!" he cries, effectively giving away the stealth. Roy dives for Luigi, but the Princess Impersonator jumps out of the way... getting his own head stuck in the ceiling! "Low overhead!" he screams as the keys drop down, but at the last second, the faithful Toad snags them! "COME BACK HERE, shrimpy shroom!" scream the Koopalings as they chase after him, but at the last second, Toad tosses them to Yoshi, who stows them in his mouth and makes off, tripping Morton and Roy, sending Wendy and Ludwig crashing into each other, squashing Larry, puts Lemmy in a wild spin, as Iggy yells ''Idiots, Stop Them!'' and the Toad into a victory dance! The kids give angry chase, but Yoshi goes behind a pillar and Luigi comes out with the key! The Koopalings don't suspect a thing, though, and keep chasing after Yoshi. Luigi races for the cell, but has a ''bit'' of a trouble with the many, many keys... "STOP!" Scream the persistent Roy and Lemmy, still chasing the green dino. Yoshi swerves, sending the two headlong into a wall. Floyd can't resist this ripe opportunity, and begins selling them "Koopa Crisis Kits", while Toadstool screams at him to "save the sales pitch, Floyd!!" Wendy. though, is very mad at Yoshi, tripping him and sending him into poor Toadstool, Floyd and Toad. She opens a trapdoor, letting six [[Thwomp]]s freefall down! At the prison, Luigi has ''finally'' picked the door lock. But when inside, he realizes that Mario still has a ball and chain on his foot. "Even Houdini couldn't break out of all these locks..." he sighs. In the fray, Wendy has also released a horde of [[Chargin' Chucks]] into the battle. As the Chucks race toward our Thwomped heroes, Toadstool gets up and gives Wendy a heavy glare. "You blitz, and I'll BOMB! I MEAN it!" "And your princess pedestal will be ''koopa kindling!!''" answers Wendy smugly. "It'll be a ''small'' price to pay to kick your KOOPA KEISTERS!" Toadstool replies, with  smiling stars and sunshine in the background. "And, as always, GOOD will triumph over KOOPA-DOM!" "YOU'RE OFF YOUR ROYAL ROCKER!!" Wendy screams, but at that moment, Mario and Luigi "still in Princess clothing) burst in and break up the fight, stomping and plowing through the Chucks Wendy released. But Wendy has a back-up plan, as she and her siblings pull a rope and send Floyd, Yoshi, Toad, the bros., and the Princess down a huge trapdoor! "Where are we?" Luigi asks dazedly as he kicks about. Suddenly, his expression freezes as he yells "Oh, NO!" "REZNORS!" everyone screams, dashing away. But a stray fireball from the castle guardians lights the bomb...KA-BOOOOOOM! goes the castle basement as everyone goes flying!
As Mario and Luigi back down the hallway, Luigi trips, noticing the Big Boo behind them. Luigi freaks out, causing Mario to turn around in confusion. When Mario turns around, he becomes very surprised by the Big Boo. Upon the brothers both turning away from them, the horde of smaller Boos advances, chomping on Luigi. The brothers stand back-to-back, with Mario keeping an eye on the Big Boo and Luigi looking at the smaller Boos, keeping them all away.
They crash-land on the other side, all yelling "WE DID IT!" On a lower note, Mario grumbles "I can't believe they pulled it off without ''my'' direction." Toadstool asks for her gown back, but Luigi says he's beginning to ''like'' it.. Floyd, after giving them a sales pitch for more bombs (they all refuse) jogs off in search of more prospective customers. "KOOPA'S CONQUERED! The Mushroom Kingdom is safe at last!" the bros. sing. "And we rescued Mario, to boot!" adds Toadstool. Mario, for once, acknowledges her with gratitude, and they all walk into the sunset, the credits rolling.

Meanwhile, at [[Bowser's Castle]], Bowser and his [[Magikoopa]] attendant watch a massive group of Yoshis pulling the cart with the giant wedding cake on it, the Magikoopa explaining that they hired a Magikoopa hypnotist to entrance them. Regardless, Bowser warns him to keep an eye on the Yoshis, as they are still enemies. Then, Bowser asks of Toadstool, and he is informed that her dress is being fitted. Unable to hold back his anxiousness, Bowser rushes to her room to take a peek before the wedding, the Magikoopa trying in vain to warn him that doing so is bad luck.
===WAIT! IT'S NOT OVER YET!===
Suddenly, the credits freeze (they are fake), the sunset clears, and Mario screams "WAIT! This adventure is far from a done deal ''yet!''" They realize that they still need to get home through that huge Warp Pipe... ''hanging high in the sky''! Mario thinks about an alternate route while everyone else screams "Oh, NOOO! WE'RE STUCK HERE ''FOREVER''!" But Toad comes up with an idea of genius! Using the cape, he flies up the pipe, promising he'll send back a rescue party. As the gang relaxes, a rope ladder suddenly falls from on high, and Toads paratroop down! (Hmmm.. They seem to have strangely pointed noses... What could that mean?!) A big, bushy eyebrowed Toad ushers them up, letting Toadstool go first, then him, then the bros. Suddenly, the Toad kicks Mario in the nose! "Something weirds going ''down''!" Mario remarks to Luigi, and he's right! The "Toad" slices the ladder, sending Mario and Luigi plummeting! "What's going on!?" Toadstool exclaims. The "Toad" suddenly turns into who else but BOWSER! "Bwa ha ha! My sinister plan WORKED! You didn't ''really'' think I'd let you go so ''easily'', did you?" he asks as the Princess screams and the rope is sucked up the pipe. The clouds dissipate to reveal that the pipe really is a Koopa flying machine! As the Kopas take off their fake caps, the captured Toad tells her that they've already taken control of their home kingdom! "Ha ha ha! You'll have to excuse me.. I have a WEDDING waiting! Ciao!" Bowser yells through his intercom. He then orders his toadies to attack "those bungling Bros.". Interestingly, when the Paratroopas drop, Luigi cries that "it's raining Mechakoopas" when the Koopa falling are clearly [[Koopa Paratroopa]]s. Mario bops, hops on and stuns them, while Yoshi hungrily and happily slurps them all up! (He's a bottomless pit! Lucky for us!" Luigi comments.) In true Super Mario World style, when Yoshi eats a blue shell, he sprouts ''wings''! The bros. hop aboard, but in the fray, they lost Bowser's rocket's trail! When Mario and Luigi start arguing, Mario asks Yoshi. Bad idea. When Yoshi tries to tell them, ''he spits out the precious shell!'' Yoshi sputters and spiral down! After a rough landing, they see a strange, gloomy house up ahead. Hmmmm... What could possibly be inside?!?

Back in the haunted house, hours later, Mario and Luigi are getting tired from staring down the Boos. However, their apparent shyness gives Mario an idea, and he pulls Luigi under the Big Boo towards a nearby room. They close the door, and Luigi questions why they wanted to go here. Mario quickly starts to rearrange some items, and when the Boos finally get inside, they find Mario dressed as [[Dr. Mario|a doctor]], with Luigi as his nurse. They direct the Big Boo to lie on the couch, and Mario diagnoses the Big Boo with anthrophobia (a fear of humans), asking it to talk about its childhood. Later, the Big Boo and the smaller Boos are all crying as the Boo has explained its troubled past (even Luigi starts crying because he had similar experiences, though Mario does not counsel him). Finally, Mario comforts the Big Boo, telling it not to let its bullies control its life. He also tells the Boo how big of a universe there is, and those bullies did not matter compared to the vast universe. The Mario Bros. and Boos head outside to get some air, and as thanks for helping them, Mario asks how to get to Bowser's Castle. Once the Boos are out of sight, the brothers remove their disguises and charge on Yoshi toward the castle.
===Boo-Mania===
The brothers decide to peek inside a take a rest.. but little do they know they are being watched.. By the royal Koopa family! As they watch, Luigi bursts inside, but Mario cautiosly holds him back. The Koopas are worried.. But Bowser announces "They're tired, hungry and, best of all, lost, which makes this bungalow just ''too'' tempting!" Mario tells Luigi, at the same time, that "We may be tired, lost and, worst of all, HUNGRY, but I feels that it's a trap!" As they turn to go, Bowser, panicing, presses a button that activates.. ''The smell of cheese?!'' Luigi, entranced, races inside. Mario on Yoshi follows, but the ceiling is too low and Mario is knocked off into the house as the door slams, shutting Yoshi out. Bowser, oh-so-happy and gloatful, skips off to "his perfect wedding". As Mario wanders the halls, calling out for Luigi, a [[Boo]] appears behind him. Mario turns around, and the little spirit blushes and hides its eyes. Mario is inspecting it when another appears.. and successfully bites Mario's posteriro. Mario turns to face it, but the first dives in! Mario races away with the Boos giggling behind him.

===Issue 42 (November 1992)===
Luigi trods the halls to find a huge piece of perfectly aged Provolone cheese being aired by a huge fan. As he gobbles down the cheese, a gigantic horde of Boos appears behind him. At the last second, Mario leaps in to warn him! Luigi turns around and freaks out. The Boos corner the bros. against a wall, but the Mario brothers slide along the wall, keeping their eyes on the ghosts... which is a bad idea, considering there's a [[Big Boo]] in the hallway behind them, which Luigi finds out after falling to the ground. As Mario turns to look at what scared Luigi off, he sees this Big Boo behaves just like the smaller Boos ("Is he scary or just scared?"), but they forget about the swarm of Boos, who then attack them from behind. To keep all the ghosts away from them, Mario and Luigi decide to stand back-to-back with each other, staring at them ("It's a face-off!").

[[File:SMAdventures Bowser Peach wedding.PNG|thumb|left|120px|Bowser and Toadstool's wedding has begun.]]
At Bowser's Castle, a large crowd has gathered for the wedding between Bowser and Princess Toadstool (Friendly Floyd is also there, selling automatic cameras for the event). Meanwhile, the hypnotist halts the hypnotized Yoshis pulling the cake, and he orders them to march down a conveyor belt into a machine, where they are sealed in eggs. Up above, Mario is watching with Yoshi and notes that the security is tight. Luigi then finds a pipe that he believes will bring them inside. While they travel through the pipe, Luigi complains about the heat, and after scrambling to the end of the tunnel, the group finds that it leads into a [[lava]]-filled cavern. Mario sees a small rock island in the lava, but when they jump on it, a Thwomp starts to fall. They jump away before it can land on them. Luigi and Yoshi land on another rock island, but Mario finds himself jumping across a group of [[Blargg]]s before leaping through another pipe on the other end.

Meanwhile, Bowser is preparing for the wedding when he is informed that the princess is acting hysterical. In the bride's chamber, Toadstool is attacking the Koopas and Goombas attending to her, insisting that she will not wed Bowser. When reassuring her does not work, Bowser has the hypnotist brainwash her into loving him, and he is so thrilled with the results that he orders a Troopa to bring him a video camera to record it.
Meanwhile, Bowser's wedding ceremony is being set with a large troop of Yoshis bringing forth the massive wedding cake. Bowser is pleased to see the ease with which Yoshis can be tamed, and it is explained they all are under hypnotic effect. Bowser warns [[Kamek]] to keep an eye open for the Yoshis, though, as they are still enemies of Koopas, even hypnotized. Then he asks of Toadstool, and is informed that her dress is being fitted. Unable to hold his anxiousness, Bowser decides to rush to her room and take a look, knocking down a Goomba in his way, and oblivious to the fact that watching the bride before the ceremony brings bad luck.

The wedding begins. While Bowser is bringing the princess down the aisle, Mario has found his way through the pipe he went through, which happens to come out of Bowser's wedding cake. Seeing the ceremony, Mario jumps down before the princess can say her "I do."
Back in the haunted house, Mario and Luigi are getting tired of staring the Boos down. Mario then notices a door nearby, grabs Luigi, and makes a dash for it, slamming it behind him. Inside the room is a desk and a couch. When the Boos break into the room, they find Mario [[Dr. Mario (character)|dressed as a psychiatrist]], with Luigi as his nurse. As the Big Boo lies down on the couch, Mario counsels the ghost, asking to be told about its childhood. Later, the Boos are crying their eyes out about the Big Boo's unfortunate childhood. This saddens Luigi so much that he says he had the same problems (Mario: "Counseling ''you'' won't get us out of this mess!") Mario proceeds to comfort the Big Boo, telling him that his frustrations are nothing in the vast universe. Feeling better, the Big Boo brings the Mario bros. outside. Mario then requests that the Big Boo tell them how to reach [[Bowser's Castle]], claiming "I want to tell the Koopa King about the wonderful universe too." Once they're out of the ghosts' sight, the Marios ditch their disguises and ride Yoshi off to the Koopa Kingdom.

===Party Crashers===
[[File:SMAdventures Bowser foiled.PNG|thumb|left|Bowser's cake collapsing]]
At Bowser's Castle, a humongous crowd of enemies are gathering to witness Bowser's marriage to the Princess (the [[Blue Virus]]es from ''[[Dr. Mario]]'' and a few enemies from ''[[Super Mario Bros. 2]]'' can be seen). Friendly Floyd is also there, selling automatic cameras to the guests. Meanwhile, the Hypnotist Magikoopa halts the hypnotized Yoshis who have now settled the wedding cake, and he orders them to march down a conveyor belt and into a machine, where they are all sealed in eggs. Up above, Mario is watching along with Yoshi and notes that the security is tight. Luigi finds a pipe that he believes may bring them inside, so they go down it. While traveling through the pipe, Luigi complains about the heat and, after scrambling to the end of the tunnel, finds that it's led them into a lava-filled cavern. Luckily, Mario sees a small rock island in the lava, so they jump to it. A Thwomp comes down, though, so they have to quickly jump away. Luigi and Yohi land on another rock island, but Mario finds himself jumping around on a group of [[Blargg]]s before landing in another pipe.
After Mario kicks Bowser away, Mario is shocked to hear Toadstool calling Bowser "darling." Nevertheless, Mario grabs her and attempts to get her out, while Bowser sends his guards after them.

Elsewhere, Luigi and Yoshi have gotten lost in the basement while looking for Mario. They find a room full of eggs, and Yoshi suddenly becomes ecstatic, pointing them out to Luigi. Luigi recalls that he and Mario hatched Yoshi out of a similar egg, and he realizes that the other Yoshis have been trapped in these eggs. The two then set to work freeing them all.
Meanwhile, Bowser has been getting into his tuxedo when he is suddenly informed that the Princess is hysterical. In the bride's chamber, Toadstool is attacking the Koopas and Goombas attending to her, insisting that she will not wed Bowser. When sweet-talking her doesn't work, Bowser sends in for the Hypnotist Magikoopa to brainwash her into loving him. The Koopa King is so thrilled with the results that he orders a Troopa to bring him a video camera so he may record it for posterity.

Back at the party, Mario has been beaten and tied up while Bowser taunts him. Bowser orders the minister to continue the ceremony, but he is suddenly interrupted by a guard informing him that the Yoshis have escaped. At this point, the Yoshis (with Luigi) come storming in, trampling over the enemies. Bowser orders the hypnotist to cast another spell, but he too is trampled, which breaks the spell on the princess, who promptly unties Mario. Bowser attempts to escape in the Clown Car, but Mario snags the propeller with the rope he was tied up with, causing the Clown Car to crash into the cake.
The wedding begins. But while Bowser is bringing the Princess down the aisle, Mario has found his way through the pipe he just went through, which happens to come out of Bowser's wedding cake. Seeing the ceremony, Mario jumps down and kicks Bowser in the face before the Princess can say her "I do". (The Koopalings, minus Larry, briefly appear to point this out.) Mario is shocked to hear Toadstool calling Bowser "darling", but nevertheless grabs her and attempts to get her out while Bowser orders his minions to seize him.

Bowser hides inside the cake as the Yoshis start eating it, and as soon as he emerges, he finds Mario standing over him. Bowser tries to charge at him, but he misses and falls into the cake again. The cake then starts to fall apart, and Mario jumps off before it collapses on top of Bowser. With Bowser finally defeated, Toadstool kisses Mario. The narration states that the Yoshis were freed and that the Mario Bros. and Toadstool returned to the Mushroom Kingdom to rest "until their next great adventure."
Elsewhere, Luigi and Yoshi have managed to escape the lava cavern and are looking for Mario in the basement. They find a room full of Yoshi eggs, which Luigi finds creepy. Yoshi suddenly becomes ecstatic, pointing the eggs out to Luigi, who then notices they look familiar. He then recalls that this is the same kind of egg he and Mario hatched Yoshi out of earlier, and that the other Yoshis are trapped in these eggs. With that, Luigi and Yoshi start cracking the eggs open.

==Similarities to the games==
Back at the party, Bowser taunts a captured and tied-to-a-pillar Mario, saying that he may stay to witness his blessed event. Bowser orders the minister to continue the ceremony, but then a Koopa Troopa rushes to alert Bowser that the Yoshis have escaped. At this point, the Yoshis (with Luigi) come storming in (Luigi: CHARGE! LET'S CRASH THIS WEDDING!), trampling over the enemies. Bowser orders the Hypnotist Magikoopa to cast another spell, but he too is trampled, his wand being smashed in the process. The spell on Toadstool is broken as a result, and she promptly unties Mario. Bowser attempts to escape in the Clown Car, but Mario snags the propellor blades with the rope, causing it to crash into the cake.
Prior to the release of this comic, most of the ''Super Mario''-franchise media outside the video games, such as ''[[The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!]]'', differed from the games in terms of artistic style, character designs, storylines, and settings. ''Super Mario Adventures'', however, subverts many of these issues. The character designs are mostly faithful to the series' official artwork at the time, and the comic largely uses existing settings and characters.

In addition, ''Super Mario Adventures'' was one of the first forms of media that displayed traits or elements for certain characters that, even if not the direct inspiration, have since been used to define the characters in later media, such as:
Bowser hides inside the cake, and Mario jumps after him, telling him to "eat cake". As if on cue, the Yoshis start eating the cake. Bowser flees to the top of the cake, where he finds Mario telling him that "the party's over". Bowser runs at Mario but misses. The cake then starts crumbling from the Yoshis having eaten it, so Mario jumps down as it collapses, taking Bowser with it. Afterwards, Luigi and Mario make jokes about Bowser's defeat, and Toadstool kisses Mario. The narrator then tells us that the Yoshis were freed, and the Marios and Toadstool returned to the Mushroom Kingdom for some rest... "until their next great adventure."
*Luigi's fear of ghosts (most prominently shown beginning with ''[[Luigi's Mansion]]'').
*Bowser showing a humorous side as well as his romantic interest in Peach (albeit preceded by the anime film ''[[Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!]]'', and first seen in the games starting with ''[[Paper Mario]]'') and having a [[Magikoopa]] advisor ([[Kamek]] has since filled this role).
*Peach's willingness to fight in order to save Mario (which she does in ''[[Super Princess Peach]]'') and attempting to escape captivity (later seen in some of the [[Paper Mario (series)|''Paper Mario'' games]], ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]'', and ''[[Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam]]'').
*The idea that Yoshi can say only his name (introduced in ''[[Yoshi's Story]]''), though later games show that while he verbally speaks his name, other characters can still understand what he is saying.

==Changes as a Graphic Novel==
*[[Spike Top]]s are featured with a brownish color similarly to the Galoombas as opposed to their standard red coloring.
When it was later reprinted in graphic novel form, some of the dialogue had been altered. These include:
**After Mario stomps the [[Wiggler]] in chapter three, its angry form is shown with an orange coloring instead of red.
*During Peach's dream sequence, Friendly Floyd is the pastor in Mario and Peach's wedding, yet she had not met Floyd until the next scene after she wakes up.
*In the scene where Toad is captured, Luigi mistakenly calls the Paratroopas "Mecha-Koopas."

==Graphic novel changes==

==Trivia==
==Trivia==
*Bowser's threatening to turn the [[Toad (species)|Mushroom People]] into stone might be a reference to the manual in ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'', as its plot summary states that Bowser brought a spell that turned the Mushroom Kingdom residents into inanimate objects, just like early in the comic.
*As a graphic novel, ''Super Mario Adventures'' was one of the first media forms that displayed some of the characters' personality traits that would define them in later games. Traits such as Luigi's cowardliness and fear of ghosts, Bowser's love interest of Peach, and Peach's willingness to fight to save Mario (which she does in the Nintendo DS game ''[[Super Princess Peach]]''), as well as the fact that Yoshi can only say his name.
*''[[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]]'' and [[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions|its remake]] would both have a scenario where Luigi would have to take Peach's place, having to wear her dress and a wig, so as to retrieve the stolen [[Beanstar]]. However, in this instance, rather than wearing a mask, he simply covers his mustache with his hands, which ultimately gives him away.
*Luigi would later dress up as Peach in the Game Boy Advance game, ''[[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]].''
*Toad's fate is never revealed after he is captured, as he is not seen after that scene, nor is the fate of the other Toads after they are seen in the desert.
**Additionally, Bowser would later force Peach to marry him in the intro to the game ''[[Super Paper Mario]]''.
*This is the first piece of ''Super Mario'' media that depicts Bowser as having a musical side. This character trait was used again over 20 years later in ''[[The Super Mario Bros. Movie]]'', where Bowser sings "[[Peaches]]."
*This comic was also one of the earliest media forms to show Peach's castle, though this particular rendition was not used again. ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]'' would have a different depiction of her castle, but it was ''[[Super Mario 64]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s rendition that became standar. While the castle's renditions continued to change in later games, they would still use the ''Super Mario 64'' castle as the basis.

*The comic depicts a rare instance of the Mario bros. doing actual plumbing work.
