Editing Super Mario-kun Volume 16

The stories from chapter 7 onwards are part of the「''{{ruby|SUPER|スーパー}} {{ruby|MARIO|マリオ}} 64'' - {{ruby|THE|ジ}} {{ruby|OTHER|アザー}} {{ruby|STORIES|ストーリ一ス}}」arc, a retelling of the ''Super Mario 64'' events which includes more places, with [[Princess Peach]] being rescued at the end. It is not known if this mini-story arc is canon, considering [[Bowser]]'s plan in this arc is later revealed to be resetting the save files via the [[fourth wall]], undoing all of Mario's progress every time he reaches the final battle.

This volume's extras are puzzles.

Autumn has arrived, yet [[Mario]] is still suffering from the hot temperature while visiting the deserted [[Shifting Sand Land]] with [[Red Bob-omb (character)|Red Bob-omb]]. Tricked by a mirage, Mario hits his head against a rock after mistaking it for a [[Power Star]]. Right after that, something swoops in and takes [[Mario Cap|Mario's cap]]; the culprit is revealed to be a [[Klepto]]. While following it, Mario and Red Bob-omb encounter some [[Goomba]]s. Mario faces head on, but they get the upper hand: without his cap, Mario is weaker and even his [[Health Meter|Power Meter]] drains a lot quicker for every injury taken. Red Bob-omb tries to fix it by giving him different caps, including [[Luigi Cap|Luigi's]], but nothing works. While running away from the Goombas with one slice of the Power Meter left, Mario lays his hands onto a [[Block (Super Mario 64)|Block]] which starts to tremble: it is a [[Crazed Crate]]. Still holding onto the Crate, Mario is bounced around with it, defeating the Goombas and leaving him dizzy.

Mario and Red Bob-omb reach an oasis, where they can finally rest. Red Bob-omb finds a glass of juice (a trap from Klepto) and drinks it, only to spew flames due to the liquid being Tabasco sauce. Mario finds some yellow [[coconut]]s, only to realize that it was a thorny [[Pokey]] body part after biting it. Right then, Mario slides down a dune and ends up in [[quicksand]]. Noticing a [[! Block|yellow block]] over it, Red Bob-omb tells Mario to hit it. Mario does so and gets a [[Koopa Shell]]. Mario is confused on what to do with it, but Red Bob-omb tells him to ride it. Mario does so and starts surfing all around the desert. Using the nearby pyramid, Mario slides up and jumps against Klepto, defeating it.

Mario takes back his cap, and Red Bob-omb notices a strange glint on Klepto's bald head: it is a Power Star. Klepto gives them the Star but asks something in exchange. Mario accepts and asks it to name the price, and Klepto swipes his cap again, claiming it as compensation: the chase resumes.
