'''Special 8''' is the eight and final extra world that appears in ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]''. It features 7 levels and the [[Toad House]]. Except Special 8-Crown, all levels in Special 8 must be unlocked by collecting Star Medals. Unlike other Special Worlds, the background music for the world (based on the "Mario Drawing Song" in ''Flipnote Studio'') is played. When Special 8-Crown is unlocked, that music is remixed. It takes place in a light-yellow plain with [[Block]]s, [[Coin]]s, & [[Warp Pipe]]s in the background.

An level similar to Special 1-2, but the player starts near the exit and going backwards. A Cosmic Clone also appears while the time starts at 30 seconds. 230 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-2===

A course with many spinning platforms and [[Rocky Wrench]]es similar to World 8-3, but the platforms spin faster.One [[Poison Mushroom]] is here. 240 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-3===

A level based on [[World 5]]-Castle where the time starts at 30 seconds. A large Cosmic Clone also appears. 250 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-4===

A level based on World 8-6 where the time starts at 30 seconds. 260 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-5===
====Layout====
An [[Airship]] level with a large Cosmic Clone.It seems to be a harder version of the [[World 7]] Airship, with faster spinning cylinders and, of course, an inclusion of a large Cosmic Clone. 270 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-Castle===

A level based on World 8-Castle where the time starts at 30 seconds and to get more time, the plumber has to defeat every [[Hammer Bros|Hammer Bro]] that he encounters. [[Dry Bowser]] is faced at the end. 290 Star Medals are needed to unlock.

===Special 8-Crown===
====Layout====
The last level of the game, that contains many colorful blocks and varied enemies and obstacles. The beginning has Hammer Bros. and Boomerang Bros. with blocks that a spread out. After is a part where Mario or Luigi jump on Used Blocks and it includes Goombas and a [[Stingby]]. After the player goes into a Pipe and fights [[Boom Boom]] and [[Pom Pom]] at the same time like in Special 4-Airship. After battling Boom Boom and Pom Pom the player goes to an area that features a [[Switchboard]] and [[Fuzzy|Fuzzies]] and there is a short [[Cosmic Clone]] part in it. In the final area, the message "THANK YOU!!" is made of Snake Panels and there are many [[Toad (species)|Toad]]s near the goal pole. Although this is the final level to become unlocked, when unlocked it was replace the pipe where going between to World 8 and Special 8 and is located before Special 8-1 on the course selection screen. To unlock this course, the player must have five stars in his or her profile. In order to obtain five stars on the profile, players must follow these steps:
#Beat Bowser on World 8-Castle 2.
#Get all star coins on each level (plus Special World levels)
#Get on each level a golden flag.
#Play all levels with both [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]].
For 5 glittering stars, the player mustn't die five or more times on each level.
