Slopes are a placeable part in Super Mario Maker 2. It is found in the terrain section in the Course Maker. There are two different kinds of slopes, Steep Slopes and Gentle Slopes. When placed next to a ground tile, it makes a sound. The player can run up on these slopes, but moves slower upward on Steep Slopes than Gentle Slopes and vice versa downward. The player can also slide down slopes by crouching on a slope. (This doesn’t work in the Super Mario Bros. style). This can be used to defeat long strands of enemies. If the player Ground Pounds on a slope, he or she can get a speed boost when sliding down a slope. Spike Balls are affected by these slopes. When going up a slope, it will slow down and will roll the other way if not at the top. It slows down more going up a steep slope than a gentle slope. When going down a slope, however, it speeds up and moves faster down steep slopes than gentle slopes. The player can change a Conveyor Belt’s height into one similar to a steep slope. The player can’t change a Conveyor Belt’s height to be similar to that of a gentle slope. Slopes of both types are available in all styles and in some themes in specific styles, they can look like staircases. In this case, it will still have the same attributes than that of a normal slope, though it looks like a staircase. If the player places a lot of Trampolines inside a steep slope, the player and most enemies can walk on the slope as if it was a staircase.

Slopes are indestructible diagonal surfaces that appear in most Super Mario games. Walking up slopes makes the player move slower, while going down slopes is faster. The player can slide down a slope if they push the down button. There are two different kinds of slopes, as classified in Super Mario Maker: Steep Slopes and Gentle Slopes.

History
Super Mario series
Both the gentle and steep slopes were introduced in World 1-2 of Super Mario Bros. 3. They solely appear in hill-themed and cave-themed stages in this game and include ones that go underwater and ones that are on the ceiling. Playable characters and enemies that walk up them tend to animate quicker, despite moving slower.

In Super Mario World, slopes are overall more common than in Super Mario Bros. 3. Ones that act like Semisolid Platforms were introduced in Yoshi's Island 1. Blue Unshelled Koopas are able to slide down them just like Mario can.

Super Mario 64 introduces slopes to the third dimension, where they come at various angles. Some are capable of being slowly walked up, while others will cause Mario to slide if he tries. One in Bob-omb Battlefield with a Red Coin on it can be walked up only by steadily continuing upwards, as stopping or going off-course will cause him to start sliding. By using midair kicks in sequence, he can climb steeper hills without sliding. Slide stages take advantage of slopes as a challenge, though he slides on these even when they are at a low angle.

In Super Mario Run, slopes are introduced close to immediately, in Up & Over. Up & Over is the first normal course in the game, though the significance of a slope may not become apparent in this course alone. The next course, Wall-Kicking It Underground, has a mandatory Slope Slide enforced by the game's control scheme, which makes the concept very clear. Slope to Success revolves around the slope and Slope Slide mechanics.

Slopes are a placeable part in Super Mario Maker 2. Steep and Gentle Slopes are available in all styles, and they are found in the terrain section in the Course Maker. When placed next to a ground tile, it makes a sound. The player can slide down slopes in all game styles except the Super Mario Bros. style, and get a speed boost if they ground-pound into the slope. Slopes are styled as stairs in the Super Mario 3D World game style in the Ghost House and Castle themes, but still have the same attributes as normal slopes.

Spike Balls are affected by these slopes. When going up a slope, they will slow down and roll the other way if they do not reach the top. They slow down faster going up Steep Slopes than Gentle Slopes. When going down a slope, however, they speed up and move faster. They speed up faster on Steep Slopes than on Gentle Slopes. The player can change a Conveyor Belt's height into one similar to a Steep Slope but not a Gentle Slope. If the player places many Trampolines inside a Steep Slope, the player and most enemies can walk on the slope as if it was a staircase.
