The Sand Spiral Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is a short course set inside and around a large barrel with a rapid sand river, where Boos and bats act as the main enemies. A gimmick of this level is giving the player the choice to use either the Boo Mushroom or the Bee Mushroom to traverse its initial portion.
The Sand Spiral Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. This galaxy is a large barrel with a rapid sand river. This galaxy has many Boos and bats.

This galaxy is unlocked when Mario completes the mission Faster Than a Speeding Penguin in the Sea Slide Galaxy and Luigi and the Haunted Mansion in the Ghostly Galaxy, as the latter is supposed to introduce the Boo Mushroom. Once Mario does so, a Hungry Luma will appear behind the Engine Room, who transforms into the Sand Spiral Galaxy when fed 1000 Star Bits.

This galaxy is unlocked when Mario completes the mission Faster Than a Speeding Penguin in the Sea Slide Galaxy and Luigi and the Haunted Mansion in the Ghostly Galaxy -- this is because that star is supposed to "introduce" the Boo Mushroom. Once Mario does so, a Hungry Luma will appear behind the Engine Room. Mario needs to feed the Hungry Luma, and the way to the Sand Spiral Galaxy is revealed. The galaxy's only mission can be accomplished by use of either the Boo Mushroom or the Bee Mushroom.

The front half of a damaged airship, which functions as the starting planet of the galaxy. At the end is a Launch Star that Mario can use to get to the Sinking Sand Planet. Scattered debris float nearby, and the damage where the missing half of the ship should be is depicted in detail, with jagged, protruding chunks of deck, wood, and some individual wooden beams. On the airship there is a Magikoopa that will retreat to the Sinking Sand Planet if not defeated.
This small planet is just the front half of an airship that seemingly crashed into something or was blasted, and functions as the Starting Planet of the Galaxy. At the end is a Launch Star that Mario can use to get to the Sinking Sand Planet. It is more likely that it was blasted by some sort of weapon due to the scattered debris floating nearby and the fact that the division where the two halves would meet is made up of jagged, protruding chunks of deck, wood, and some individual wooden beams that would support or make up the decks. On the airship there is a Magikoopa that will retreat to the Sinking Sand Planet if not killed.

This is a large planet with a barrel-like exterior and a tunnel made of brick inside, through which a river of quicksand flows. Mario must navigate through the obstacles (which include Water Shooters and spotlights) and avoid falling into the sand by either using the Bee Mushroom or the Boo Mushroom. The end of the tunnel marks a checkpoint, and a honeycomb wall panel appears here, as well as a Sling Star that launches the player onward.

This is a small glowing moon with a spiraling series of rocky platforms spinning around it. Mario must cross this spiral while avoiding Space Mines to reach the moon, where the Power Star is.

Mario can access this area in his bee form. If he reaches the area as Boo Mario, however, the power-up wears off. The Purple Toad explains that the moonlight is too bright.
If Mario gets across the entire Sand Planet as Bee Mario, he can fly to the moon. He will have to stop on the platforms once or twice while taking this shortcut. If Mario reaches the area as Boo Mario, the power-up wears off. The Purple Toad explains that the moonlight is too bright.

*This is one of two Hungry Luma Galaxies whose unlock condition requires more than one mission to be completed beforehand, not counting missions in the Reactors. The other is the Boo's Boneyard Galaxy.

*Near the entrance, a Red Toad is seen near the Boo Mushroom. The only Red Toad in the Toad Brigade is Captain Toad, who is always seen with his headlamp and backpack on. He still reacts in the same scared way Captain Toad would upon seeing either of Mario's powered-up forms, while other Toads in the area do not.
*If Boo Mario tries to fly up to the spiral area instead of taking the Sling Star, his abilities will disappear before he lands on the platform. This is due to how bright the moon is, as noted by a Toad.
*Like Sweet Sweet Galaxy, this galaxy can be accessed without using the pink Launch Star left behind by the Hungry Luma via an unintended interaction: after talking to the Hungry Luma to make the Launch Star appear, Flying Mario can be used to access the portal instead.ref needed
