Plus and Minus Barrels appear mainly in [[Haunted Hall]], in midair and on the track rails throughout. Jumping at the Plus Barrels is required to increase the onscreen timer, though Minus Barrels are hazardous because they decrease the onscreen timer instead. If the timer reaches zero, the Kongs are attacked by the [[Kackle]] pursuing them. In an earlier level, [[Rickety Race (Donkey Kong Country 2)|Rickety Race]], there is a Plus Barrel at the start, hidden below a wooden platform. This Plus Barrel functions differently, because when the Kongs [[jump]] into the first [[Roller Coaster]], if the player holds Left on {{button|snes|Pad}} as the race's start is signaled, the Roller Coaster moves backwards into the Plus Barrel, which speeds up the Roller Coaster to ride on the remaining track segment.
