A '''platform''' is an obstacle in almost every adventure video game, and the ''[[Super Smash Bros. (series)|Super Smash Bros.]]'' series. In sidescrollers, the [[player]] can jump through platforms (and in Smash Bros' case, drop through as well), but in 3D games, the player would need to get on them as if the game were real life. Some platforms cannot be jumped through in sidescrollers (''[[Mario Bros. (game)|Mario Bros.]]'' for example), but most can.

While platforms are mainly in side-scrollers, the player can jump up through the bottoms of some platforms (and, in ''[[Super Smash Bros.]]''{{'}} case, drop through the tops as well), which cannot be done in three-dimensional games. Platforms often have gimmicky traits, such as moving. These are sometimes referred to as [[lift]]s. Some platforms in ''[[Yoshi's Woolly World]]'' are yarn frames that require a [[yarn ball]] to be thrown at them to become solid.
