'''Platforms''' are obstacles in almost every adventure video game, including the ''[[Mario (series)|Mario]]'' series. They are physical objects that the player jumps across to get through levels. In sidescrollers, the [[player]] can jump up through the bottoms of platforms (and in ''Super Smash Bros''<nowiki>'</nowiki> case, drop through the tops as well). However in 3D games, the player can not jump through them and have to jump around them. Some platforms cannot be jumped through in sidescrollers (''[[Mario Bros. (game)|Mario Bros.]]'' for example), but most can. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii the platforms are orange and can be jumped through. Above an orange platform there maybe a question block or a brick block.
'''Platforms''' in the [[Super Mario (franchise)|''Super Mario'' franchise]] are physical objects that the player character [[jump]]s across to get through [[level]]s or discover secrets. While platforms are mainly in side-scrollers, the player can jump up through the bottoms of some platforms (and, in ''[[Super Smash Bros.]]''{{'}} case, drop through the tops as well), which cannot be done in three-dimensional games. Platforms often have gimmicky traits, such as moving. These are sometimes referred to as [[lift]]s. Some platforms in ''[[Yoshi's Woolly World]]'' are yarn frames that require a [[yarn ball]] to be thrown at them to become solid.
