The Parlor (known as the living room in a pre-release version) is the second room Luigi visits in the game Luigi's Mansion. It is a large room at the second floor. The floor is covered by a huge square rug. At the north side of the room are two libraries containing plates and glasses. In front of the large drawer is a small round table with wine. To the east, a couch with a blanked table can be found next to a small drawer. The walls are covered with different paintings.
The Parlor is the first real room in the game Luigi's Mansion. In the beginning of the game, a Gold Ghost purposely drops the key to the Living in the main part of the Foyer. Upon entering the Parlor for the first time, the same Gold Ghost gives the plumber a good scare and heads toward him. However, before the ghost can get any further to the cowering green-clothed Mario brother, Professor E. Gadd comes and attempts to suck the ghost up. After the failed attempt to catch the ghost, it disappears and Gadd and Luigi have a short first impression before the same ghost returns with two other Gold Ghosts. The pair of protagonists quickly flee back to E. Gadd's Lab. After the training at the lab, Luigi enters the Parlor again with the intention to find his brother. If the player puts out all the candles in the room, the paintings talk to Luigi and warn him about what he has done. Then a couple of Gold Ghosts attack Luigi and he must defeat them to get the key to the Anteroom.

At the beginning of the game, a Gold Ghost drops the key to the Parlor in the main part of the Foyer. When Luigi enters the Parlor, a Gold Ghost attacks him, but Professor E. Gadd comes and rescues him with his Poltergust 3000. E. Gadd teaches Luigi how to use the Poltergust. When Luigi blows out all of the candles in the room with his Poltergust 3000 and makes the Parlor dark, the paintings in the room will come to life and let loose some Gold Ghosts. After Luigi defeats them, he gains the key to the Anteroom. The Parlor is the only room whose key is held by a ghost instead of being found in a chest or item.
The Parlor is mostly filled with furniture and the above mentioned possesed portraits; aside from that there is not much else.

The earliest Parlor in pre-release material had an analog TV showing three ghosts playing cards and more furniture. Ghosts attacking Luigi and E. Gadd were colored pink and had their own dialogue box. In the same context, Luigi also had a dialogue box when being scared during the cutscene. The floor was more white-shaded, and the present portraits were originally a similar painting depicting a blue ghost with a hat in a purplish background.

Trivia
*The Parlor will only have Gold ghosts in it. Even later in the blackout, the Parlor will only have several Gold Ghosts in its possession.
*Apart from the Foyer, The Parlor is the room the player has to visit the most, three times neccesarily to complete the game, and a fourth time to get a Boo ghost (as you can't catch boos during a blackout nor till you find the boos later in the game) in order to achieve 100% completion.
