the place named Mario Land
Mario Land is where the events of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins took place. The land consists of six primary areas: the Space Zone, Macro Zone, Turtle Zone, Pumpkin Zone, Mario Zone, and Tree Zone. There is also a one level Hippo Zone leading to the Space Zone, an area branching off the path between the Tree Zone and Macro Zone, and a Toad House-like area on the southern end of Mario Land. On the center of the island is Mario's Castle. During the events of the game, while Mario is off in Sarasaland to rescue Princess Daisy in Super Mario Land, Wario invades Mario Land and conquers it, transforming his castle and spreading the six Golden Coins across the zones. When Mario returns and discovers this, he must travel the six zones to retrieve the coins and reclaim his land. Mario's Castle hasn't been seen in other games, and has likely been replaced with Mario's House.
The land became a playground from Wade Shows in the South Florida Fair from 2011 to 2013 and returns next year for a new apperence. Mario and Luigi used to have their own letters put together and is replaced with Ninetendo's graphics in 2012 to promote the release of New Super Mario Bros. U which was planned to be called New Super Mario Bros. Mii
A "Mario Land" was also featured in Mario Party 2. The land was split up into different game boards: Horror Land, Western Land, Mini-game Land, Pirate Land, Space Land, and Mystery Land. Additionally, later in the game Bowser and a Koopa Kid kidnapped Toad and took over part of Mario Land, calling it Bowser Land.
The name came about when Mario and his friends were fighting over what the land should be called. Toad convinced them to name the land after whoever defeated Bowser. Depending on who became the superstar, the land could also be called Luigi Land, Wario Land, Peach Land, Yoshi Land, or Donkey Kong Land. However, regardless of the character the land will always end up being called Mario Land in the end.
Because it does not closely resemble the "Mario Land" of Super Mario Land 2, it is unclear as to whether these are canonically the same land.
