The admins agreed that they were a waste of space that did little with the Wiki and only encouraged users to edit their userspace more. The userboxes are now only Wiki-related (except for the basic ones at the bottom). {{User:Fawfulfury65/sig}}

They wanted to keep only the example boxes as a starting point. I think they said that the previous way encouraged excessive mainpage edits and excessive length to the article. -:I agree that there's a lack of interest toward those nowadays. I know I'm unwilling to put tons of arbitrary colorful boxes on my user page. Not a productive use of time, in my opinion. There's other ways that users can express themselves and their favorites on user pages, be it bullet lists, prose, and so forth. Looks like the userbox list has been trimmed for over 13 years at this point, and I don't think it would amount to anything if it were to be undone.
