Editing MarioWiki talk:Missions

"Something good may happen...30 missions." I don't like this &ndash; people just might do the missions for whatever that good thing is and then stop. This is supposed to promote collaboration for the wiki's minor, categorizing, and adding template edits that can be boring otherwise. I'm thinking of changing this into a one page thing, instead of a bunch of users being assigned missions. I understand some users (who shall not be named) don't like the idea of asking another user in particular to do something. The requests should be a little more open.

If you cannot follow what I'm saying, think of the [[Trouble Center]] from PM. A person in need or trouble can post their problem on the page. Some random user can come along and commit to do it, like Mario, who could only do one thing at one time. The user who requested it can mark it as complete similar to mission pages. I'm thinking of calling this {{fakelink|MarioWiki:Trouble Center}}. The idea has evolved from challenges to missions to requests.

Now vote in a similar format to FAs and determine whether this should be done.

:1. It can be deleted, as it is now a useless page. They will be deleted at a designated time so that people can do #2 below. Wayoshi decides the rest.
:2. It is up to the assiging user whether they want to move the mission to the trouble center page.

I see a problem with this. The Missions offers, if anything, a nice little number for your userpage and maybe some friendly competition between users. The Trouble Center offered rewards. Well, not exactly like the Trouble Center, only based off it. A few things that will be changed to fit the wiki are:

#There is no reward, only a feeling of accomplishment and something to be proud of. Users can add however many missions they have done on their user page. The requests the user has done will also permanently stay on that page.
#You don't have to pay coins to back out of a request, you can simply just remove your name from that request. Also remember that a user can only sign up to do one request at a time. This means a user cannot just commit to do everything and not do them. Only one user can do one thing at a time.

After some thinking, I '''support''' this move. Think: A user wants something like a few images added to articles, but hasn't quite yet learned the proper syntax. He or she can post the trouble and have an experienced user do it. I see even more collaboration out of this than Missions, open to all. I'll create a little box for users to put on their pages to keep track of missions done. A feeling of accomplishment was originally the idea of a user's own reward. == Reinstating Missions/Challenges ==

Before there was the Trouble Center, there were Challenges, later changed to Missions. Personally, I feel that these had the best effect on the wiki.

Challenges were set by users to other users. This was great because it allowed issues that the average wiki user saw to be solved while distributing the work among participating challengees. I had talked to Wayoshi at one point about maybe creating a mock rewards system for kicks, similar to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiMoney WikiMoney].

The Trouble Center had a different effect. People could ask for help on any old issue they so wished and it would be up to random users, who at this point had no real incentive to even visit the TC, to actually do the work. It ended up just being a huge backlog of problems, ranging from issues solved long ago to Troubles that covered multiple things.
