| :I can't confirm if it's still used, but the IRC chatroom has been quite in a steady decline for years, way before Discord even was established (chat is much more close-knit, while the rest would go on the forums for more general chatter; even wiki matters is more likely to wound up in a forum thread). I would be surprised if it's still being used, as people who'd frequently use chat back in the day tend to congregate more frequently in Discord. That being said, it's not my call to remove the link to this, as there are users that consider IRC an important part of MarioWiki, at least historically. {{User:Mario/sig}} 19:15, December 27, 2024 (EST)

Found out that this edit[https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Sidebar&diff=2653461&oldid=2153620] effectively replaced Wiki Chat with Discord, so I do think it's not controversial to assume that it should apply to the front page. I do think ''maybe'' it should be linked somewhere just for accessibilty's sake, but I can't say it should be given same prominence as our other links on the front page, which all the rest are still relevant. {{User:Mario/sig}} 19:22, December 27, 2024 (EST)

| :::Contacted the chat operators on our Discord channel. They responded that the irc feature has been largely abandoned, with few, if any users using it. This is on top of on the mibbit client, which MarioWiki's irc relied on, being discontinued back in August 2024, which probably is the metaphorical writing on the wall for this. Suffice to say, I don't think it requires much more maintenance, and it's been agreed that chat can be removed as a link to the front page. {{User:Mario/sig}} 21:15, December 27, 2024 (EST)
