:I agree. Originally the idea was to only have comments that were directly associated with the article, like the text entered in the deletion log by a Sysop or in the original edit summary. It never was intended as a place for everybody to drop their own comments afterwards. I think we should get rid of at least some comments, if not all of them. - 08:10, 6 September 2009 (EDT)

If there's a subpage for games, why not one for levels? I've seen plenty of silly things on level articles, so I think a separate subpage for levels should be created.

I've noticed that quite a lot of the Other section contains quite a lot of places. My proposal is simple, we create a subpage for places and place all the places in there.

This is something I've noticed twice now during April Fools (including this year's). Why is the main content of each April Fools' event archived but not the proposals? I propose that we also archive the various joke proposals as part of April Fools' on BJAODN (not every joke proposal that fits this category, obviously), though I'm also laying out two options for this:

With the porple bot replacing text, it's also affecting the bjaodn entries. I am in suspicion. See sal out (Mike's theme) and anything that had Mario (franchise) on it. Should we recover those accidently bot-replaced text? 05:47, August 4, 2023 (EDT)
"No impertinent content" rule
"[...]Such content may include entire articles, sections of articles, or "joke" proposals, but may only be taken from valid wiki articles or proposals. Content derived from user talk pages or any other namespace is not allowed under any circumstances and will be removed on sight."
However, there are some breakers to this rule: (File) (Gallery) (Talk) (Template) etc. pages are in the BJAODN sections, esp. the /Other subpage. Here is a list to clarify; sorry if i missed any that start with "Namespace:Page":
*File:Booblast.jpg
*File:Bowser on Koopa King kart MKDD.png
*File:FeezingTower.jpg
*File:Goombario Tattling Paratroopa PMTTYD.png
*File:Mario Party 2 Face Lift.png

*Gallery:Donkey Kong Country

*Gallery:Mario Party
*Gallery:Mario Party Advance
*Gallery:Mario Party DS
*Gallery:Mario sprites and models
*Gallery:Super Princess Peach
*Talk:Dr. Tornado
*Talk:Mama Toad
*Talk:Princess Peach
*Talk:Meat
*Template:Award-winner
*Template:Userspace
The (talk) namespace entries on BJAODN are the major offenders and must be discouraged from being submitted, as with the (User talk) entries; a section on "User talk:Alex95" was removed from the BJAODN archives as per this impertinent content rule. Which namespaces aside from (Talk) should be removed from the archives, specifically? (File) (Gallery) (Template) (MarioWiki) (Help)
06:40, January 1, 2024 (EST)
:It's clearly a dated rule and should be either reduced in scope to limit content from talk pages (with rare exceptions), or treated like an extension of "don't create bad content on purpose" and otherwise removed all together. 12:52, January 1, 2024 (EST)
::Rewrote it. Hopefully that should clear it up. I don't think we'll delete any content from those namespaces, as several of these (such as Talk:Meat) does qualify as "something so confusing and devoid of information that you become suspicious of the writer's sanity" 19:00, January 22, 2024 (EST)
The user comments kinda suck
talk
I've never been a fan of how comments are integrated among BJAODN entries, because it's often done with reckless abandon which causes them to blend into the rest of their respective entries. The comments, imo, should be more neatly incorporated; I was thinking that we should reach a consensus on a more suitable format for these comments. I'd personally favor giving them a forum-y touch, so my idea is to encase them in a cream-colored box, separate them with lines, and (where applicable) move each comment's signature above the comment itself, like so:
<div class="contentbox mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">
<h2>Pirate Goomba</h2>

Pirate Goomba is a pirate Goomba.
br
<div style="float:left; border:1px solid #f5d3b0;background:#fffdd0;padding:2px; ; margin: 0 auto;">
(It should be noted that this line quickly became a running gag around the Super Mario Wiki.)
</div>br
<h2>Toad (species)</h2>
Toads dont appear in New Super Mario Bros., in the intro, the small things panicking aren't toads, they are toadsworths. Nintendo probably didnt want to make a new model just for toad, and used toadsworth's model instead. Toadsworth also appear in mushroom houses.
<div style="float:left; border:1px solid #f5d3b0;background:#fffdd0;padding:2px; ; margin: 0 auto;">
Baby Luigi:<br>(While the information is technically correct, the way this is worded, unsourced, and taken out of context makes this sound like completely nonsense.)
</div>br
----
Althought the Toads are occasionally depicted as happy in some artworks, there are differences: Toadette rarely winks usually. Toads are never seen winking like this.
<div style="float:left; border:1px solid #f5d3b0;background:#fffdd0;padding:2px; ; margin: 0 auto;">
Doc von Schmeltwick:<br>("So, uh, how often, exactly?"
----
(Later, it would be re-added as this:)
</div>br
Although the Toads are depicted a being happy in some artworks, there are differences. Toadette flirtatiously winks when depicted in several artworks, which is not present in any games the Toads appeared.
<div style="float:left; border:1px solid #f5d3b0;background:#fffdd0;padding:2px; ; margin: 0 auto;">
(<big><big>←Like this???</big></big>)
</div>br
</div>
----
These two examples are lifted from the MarioWiki:BJAODN/Characters page. You'll notice that, outside of relocating the signatures and removing a hyphen that separated one comment from its signature, I didn't tamper with the original formatting and punctuation of any comment.
Obviously this would get cumbersome to format manually over and over, so a template would come in clutch:
<pre>
{{BJAODN comments
|user1=
|comment1=
|user2=
|comment2=
|user3=
|comment3=
etc.
</pre>
(The "user" parameters are optional.)
What does everyone think? Keep in mind that this format is so far just a suggestion; any feedback is appreciated. If a consensus proves difficult to reach, I'll proceed with a proposal. 16:12, January 21, 2024 (EST) Edit: Made the borders around the comments thinner. 16:17, January 21, 2024 (EST)
:I'm okay with it. It looks lots better and makes the comments stand out more noticeably. Super Mario RPG (talk) 16:16, January 21, 2024 (EST)
Note: I use a custom wiki skin where the text is superimposed on a dark background, which renders the "Comments" labels illegible in the cream boxes. When logged out, I notice that these labels stick out too much; perhaps we could do without the labels and let the cream background itself suggest a comment section, like a post-it note of sorts? Example:
<div style="float:left; border:1px solid #f5d3b0;background:#fffdd0;padding:2px; ; margin: 0 auto;">
Doc von Schmeltwick:<br>("So, uh, how often, exactly?"
----
(Later, it would be re-added as this:)
</div>br
16:24, January 21, 2024 (EST) Edit:Fully removed the Comments labels to better illustrate the current vision. See this revision if you're curious how the comment boxes used to look like. 17:13, January 21, 2024 (EST)
:Great idea, and the template is great. Maybe someday, we could enforce this BJAODN comments template in all of the BJAODN archives. 17:06, January 21, 2024 (EST)
:Looks good to me! SolemnStormcloud (talk) 17:19, January 21, 2024 (EST)
Maybe you can create a proposal about this to see what the community thinks. I personally like this idea! 17:21, January 21, 2024 (EST)
:I'd be up for a proposal! SolemnStormcloud (talk) 18:05, January 21, 2024 (EST)
::I understand the concern for readability, but I think these colored boxes draw attention to the commentary rather than the content they're riffing on, which the content I think should be the focus of these pages. 18:52, January 22, 2024 (EST)
:::Yeah, even before you added your comment I was having second thoughts about this addition. The post-it format fills up too much space and, although not garish, still hampers readability. The original format, despite its shortcomings, has the net advantage of being more discreet, and has endured for so long because there's seldom anything you could do to improve it without adding superfluous elements. (Wikipedia's BJAODN uses pretty much the same comment "system" except it seems to have a bespoke "reply" button.) I will admit: this topic was more of a stream-of-consciousness than a well thought-out and researched proposition. I decided I won't set up a proposal anymore, but seeing as though the suggested format still got some positive reception, I'd be okay with somebody else making a proposal in my stead. 20:12, January 22, 2024 (EST)
