In the first level (Grand Star Rescue) Rosalina trusts Mario with a Luma. This Luma gives Mario the ability to swing and with that, to travel through space. This Luma actually lives in Mario's stomach. When he spins it gets out and you must wait 2 seconds or so till it gets back in the stomach, otherwise you can't use the power of spinning. | |||

The Luma won't get out of the stomach when Mario uses a Launch Star or Sling Star. | |||
It is possible that Pull Stars attract the Luma. That could be why Mario could use them. | |||
