The Mario Key is obtained first by [[Yoshi]] after collecting eight [[Power Star]]s and getting into the room behind the Princess's [[Rec Room (Super Mario 64 DS)|Rec Room]] and defeating [[Goomboss]] inside the portrait. The Mario Key was created by [[Bowser]] and given to Goomboss and his [[Goomba]]s to trap Mario after they caught him. After the defeat of the Goombas, they retreated, leaving the key behind. The key is about the size of Mario, and it's made of gold with a large M in the center of it. It also has a [[Mario Hat]] on top of it. Once Yoshi retrieves this key and brings it to the door Mario will be freed. Also, Mario Hats will now appear inside courses if the player is someone other than Mario.
