In the GBA version only, the level opens with a cinematic showing [[Mario]] climbing up [[rope]]s to avoid rising [[lava]].
The level opens with a cinematic showing [[Mario]] climbing up [[rope]]s to avoid rising [[lava]].

The first area has lava that rises at regular intervals, which the player needs to avoid falling into as they climb up the stage. The player first has to cross a falling bridge and then climb up ropes to reach a group of platforms with [[Fire Shy Guy]]s on them. To the right is a [[spring]] that the player can use to reach a ladder. Next is a moving platform that the player needs to [[crouch]] on to move under the spiked platform above, and then the player needs to jump onto a hopping [[Ninji]] to reach ropes that lead to a platform with the [[Key]]. Carrying the Key across two more jumping Ninjis will allow the player to reach the locked door.
