Mario makes his first appearance in a television show in the Donkey Kong segments of Saturday Supercade. In the show, he is an apparent circus owner along with Pauline, who works as an animal trainer. Donkey Kong escapes from the circus, and Mario and Pauline are always on the loose to capture him. They go on many adventures where Donkey Kong gets himself involved in many situations, usually happening on crimes involving theft, fraud, and deceit, and Mario and Pauline try to help make things right.

In the album, Donkey Kong Goes Home, Mario works at a pizza parlor next to the narrator's candy shop and Gamesville's zoo where Donkey Kong lives. She, Mario, and Pauline, who is Mario's delivery girl, would go to the zoo every day to see Donkey Kong and feed him food. Until the animals, including Donkey Kong, got sold to the circus and only visited Gamesville once a year and the zoo became a construction site. Later, Jake the Watchman of the construction site calls Mario and orders a pizza, which Pauline heads to deliver. Donkey Kong sees Pauline, kidnaps her, and the narrator tells Mario to save her. As Mario climbs closer to Donkey Kong, the fewer barrels he throws and he soon recognizes him. Mario saves Pauline and everybody in Gamesville celebrates. Mario says Donkey Kong is not dangerous but rather homesick, and everyone decides that the top 20 floors of the building would be the Donkey Kong zoo.
