The Gate, or the gateway to the starry sky as it is called by a Luma, is a portal from the Comet Observatory to the Gateway Galaxy which appears in the Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy. It is a small floating island above the comet observatory with two of the observatory's Warp Pads linking to it; one from the Engine Room and one from the Garden. It is impossible to access the gate if one has not recovered the sixth Grand Star by defeating King Kaliente in the galaxy Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor. Once that star is recovered, the Engine Room will be completed and the Warp Pad to the gate will open creating a path to both the Gate and the Garden.

The Gate, or the gateway to the starry sky as it is called by a Luma, is a portal from the Comet Observatory to the Gateway Galaxy which appears in the Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy. It is a small floating island above the comet observatory with a small house resembling the one in the Gateway Galaxy leading to the galaxy itself, two flower beds, and two of the observatory's Warp Pads linking to it: one from the Engine Room and one from the Garden.

By passing through the Gate, Mario is able to return to the Gateway Galaxy and take another Warp Pad to the Garden. Once the player completes Gateway's Purple Coins, a Hungry Luma appears just beside the Gate who unlocks and allows Mario to travel to the Boo's Boneyard Galaxy if it is fed 1,200 Star Bits.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, if Mario completes the Grandmaster Galaxy's Daredevil Run, he will meet Rosalina on a final planet that is exactly identical to the Gate, except the portals to the Engine Room and the Garden are missing.

|This is the first Galaxy that the player encounters in the game. However, after completing its first mission, the player cannot revisit the Galaxy until they have unlocked the Gate dome. It contains a grassy starting planet with patches of flowers, miniature houses, and other features. A Grand Star and a red Power Star can be found in this Galaxy.
