A yellow [[Toad (species)|Toad]] stands by the edge of the fountain, having thrown [[coin]]s in it to make a wish. [[Mario]] can go into the fountain to recover these coins, although when the water is poisoned, he takes damage doing so. When [[Petea Piranha]] is defeated, the Fountain of Truth is purified, and Mario can safely retrieve the coins inside.
