In ''Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam'', Expert Challenges can be completed after clearing the "Just Getting Started" challenge, and cannot be completed in Easy Mode. Expert Challenge points are used to exchange for gear in gear shops. Not all rewards are available at the outset, and require a certain number of challenge points earned to unlock, e.g. Mario/Luigi's Shocking Boots/Hammer DX unlock when 2600 points are earned and Paper Mario's expert boots/hammer unlock when 7500 points are earned altogether. The Duplex Crown is once again the ultimate reward, only when all 10000 points are earned. There are a total of 173 Expert Challenges in this game.
