'''Duel Events''' are a type of [[Event]] that exclusively appears in the [[Wii U]] version of ''[[Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Wii U)|Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games]]''. Duel Events share some similarities with [[Dream Event]]s, however they instead focus on earning Duel Points, which are gained by attacking other players or scoring in the same way as in the original sport that the event is based on and use almost identical controls and rules. Duel Points can be built up by attacking other players using a range of items and special attack mechanics, but cannot actually be won until a points would be scored in the actual event, such as scoring a goal in football, which also awards extra points. When Duel Points are won, the other team's built up points are halved. They take place in different real life locations to the regular events which are famous locations in Rio de Janeiro, but are not Olympic venues. There are only three Duel Events:
