Like the [[Coin Bag]] and the [[Coin|Coin Trio]], it is an item that benefits the player rather than hurts their opponents, and players in first place cannot receive this item. When activated, it temporarily doubles the amount of coins obtained for a period of time, represented by a blue aura around the top screen. When the Double Medal is about to run out, the blue aura flickers and eventually vanishes. When a [[Diddy Kong]] [[amiibo]] is used in Coinathlon, Diddy Kong always receives two of this item when he starts out.
