| A Disappearing Boo Buddy is a type of Boo found in Super Mario World. Disappearing Boo Buddies are found only in the Sunken Ghost Ship and cannot be defeated. They are found in a group randomly scattered throughout the screen and are completely motionless until they simultaneously vanish and reappear elsewhere. The best way to deal with them is to move very slowly to avoid colliding into one. They are similar to Boo Crews found in the Donut Ghost House and Forest Ghost House, but Boo Crews turn transparent rather than disappearing, move rather than staying still, and are a tighter mass.

| In the first chapter of the fourth volume of Super Mario-kun, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi traverse the Sunken Ghost Ship and attempt to bypass the Boos while disguised as a Big Boo, but the three are quickly discovered. Luigi gets possessed by the Boos, and his body is used to hurt his friends, until Mario finds an old Super Leaf in the shipwreck and uses his Raccoon tail to hit Luigi, causing him to vomit out all the Boos. Too weakened by the hit, the Boos do not follow them, hoping the long, tall room that the heroes entered would defeat them.
