| Dire, Dire Docks, also known as Waterworld, is the ninth course in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. The entrance to the course is through the Big Star Door to the left of the Mushroom Castle's main basement room. 30 Power Stars are needed to unlock the door. The entrance to Dire, Dire Docks is a large water-like portal, and walking or jumping through it brings the player to the course. Before the player collects the course's first Power Star, the course's entrance portal covers the hole that leads to Bowser in the Fire Sea, but once the player collects the Power Star, the entrance to Dire, Dire Docks moves back to the end of the hall, opening Bowser in the Fire Sea. Additionally, Bowser's Sub (or the Submarine) in Dire, Dire Docks does not move until Bowser in the Fire Sea is completed.

| This course shares the same music as Jolly Roger Bay. When Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario is in the tunnel (at its entrance in the Nintendo 64 version, or halfway through it in the DS version), synths are added to the music; when the player character is on land in the second area, a drum beat is added to the music.
| | Dire, Dire Docks is the second water-themed level in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. Dire, Dire Docks is the ninth course of both games. Much like Jolly Roger Bay, Dire Dire Docks has a large body of water and marine life throughout the level. The starting area is a deep lake with a whirlpool at the center and an underwater tunnel that connects to a cave where Bowser's Sub is docked. |
|
| |
|
| ==Layout==
| | Dire Dire Docks doesn't have a painting, instead it's a vertical wall to wall rippling blue portal. It can be located in the basement, near the door to the area with MIPS. Mario will need 30 Power Stars before he can enter it. |

| |
| A majority of the course is underwater, like Jolly Roger Bay greatly resembling the real-world geological phenomenon of a cenote. The player immediately starts falling into a body of water, and in the DS version of the game, there are some Black Bricks and Skeeters on the surface. Below the surface are Bubs, a Manta Ray, a whirlpool that will make the player lose a life if they get trapped in it, and several Treasure Chests along the bottom. A large tunnel connects the two areas of the course, and there is a place to come up for air halfway through the tunnel.
| |
|
| |
|
| The next area of the course has several clam shells along the floor, a cage containing a Power Star to the left, and a grate spouting bubble rings. If Bowser in the Fire Sea has yet to be completed, Bowser's Sub will be on the water's surface. Otherwise, the Sub will be missing and a large exit into the Castle Grounds will be open to the south. If the player goes near the exit, it will suck them up, but there is also a line of coins near it. Above the surface is a boardwalk with green and blue blocks that contain the Metal Cap and Vanish Cap, respectively, as well as a Purple Switch that creates blocks to the platforms above when stood on. Several poles slide across the ceiling of this course, but they will not appear if the Sub is present.
| | A large door with a star on it can be seen in the basement, the portal is here in a hallway. When Mario completes the Board Bowser's Sub level, the portal will move backwards, revealing a hole in the ground that leads to Bowser in the Fire Sea. When Bowser is defeated, the sub will be gone, and a passage will open, making a warp outside Peach's Castle. |

| ==Missions==
| | There are a total of 106 coins in the level, so getting the 100 coin star can be very hard. Only 6 coins can be passed up, so collect every single one the player came across. |
