| ===Background===
| | Sixty-five million years ago, a meteorite struck the planet Earth. This impact created a dimension parallel to Earth, that the dinosaurs inhabiting the planet teleported to Earth. Daisy's mother was one such dinosaur. As the two dimensions continued to coexist, the dinosaurs continued to evolve until reaching a human-like state. |
| As indicated by her parental relationship to Daisy, and marriage to the King, it can be inferred she was the queen of Dinohattan. Upon General Koopa's dictatorship overtaking of Dinohattan, the King was de-evolved into a fungus form, and the reign of the King and Queen was overthrown. Daisy's mother escaped from Dinohattan to Earth while carrying a pod which contained Daisy in an unhatched egg state and a smuggled meteorite piece. Said meteorite piece is capable of merging the two parallel dimensions of the "real world" and Dinohattan into one. Koopa has been chasing after the meteorite rock so that he can merge the two dimensions and be able to become dictator of both.

| After the narrated introductory sequence, the film's plot begins twenty years before the present day with Daisy's mother in Brooklyn, New York. She is shown running through the streets on a dark and stormy night carrying the pod that contains Daisy and the meteorite piece. She places the pod at the door of St. Theresa's Cathedral, knocks and then leaves. She begins her travel through the New York sewers to the portal that will transport her back to Dinohattan, but on her way she encounters Koopa, who grabs her and demands to know where the meteorite rock is, and in the scuffle between the duo, they manage to knock over a support beam. The tunnel collapses around them, with Daisy's mother being crushed to death by the falling rocks.

| Twenty years after the incident, Daisy has grown up with no knowledge as to who her mother was. To feel connected to her past life, she has worn the meteorite piece around her neck all her life, and has an unexplained fascination with dinosaurs. Daisy and Luigi visit the same tunnel, so she can show him dinosaur fossils her excavation team found. She points out that the dinosaur bones have thumb-like opposable thumbs. Unbeknownst to them, the fossils were that of Daisy's mother. Later in the film, Koopa mentions to Daisy that she has her "mother's eyes" and orders her to wear a purple dress. Lena informs Daisy it originally belonged to her mother, and calls the Queen "quite an inspiration...to some". She then lets Daisy know that her mother died after her escape out of Dinohattan.

| |
| In the simplified manga adaptation of the Super Mario Bros. film titled Super Mario: Makai Teikoku no Megami, Daisy's mother is briefly seen in a flashback. Upon Daisy's kidnap, Koopa explains to her the purpose of the meteorite piece and that a woman opposed to his plans stole it from him. She escaped to Earth with the piece, also taking her daughter with her. Koopa reveals this was Daisy's mother, to her surprise. Differing from the film, Daisy had already been born as a baby in this escape, seen being cradled by her mother. The manga's depiction of the character bears more resemblance to Lena than that of the film character.

| | Most of the Queen's life remains unknown. Some time after General Koopa began his takeover of Dinohattan, the Queen escapes to the human dimension and leaves her unhatched child, Daisy, as well as a shard of the meteorite that struck millions of years previously, in the 1970s at the doorstep of St. Theresa's Cathedral. After she reaches the tunnel leading to Dinohattan, the Queen encounters Koopa. Koopa grabs her and demands the meteorite shard, but she frees herself and knocks over one of the support beams to attack him, but this results in the cave collapsing on her with rocks falling on her crushing her to death. |

Daisy shows Luigi the bones of a dinosaur that they found and notes the thumb-like bones that appear on the hands; the dinosaur skeleton is really that of Daisy's mother, though both are unaware of this. |
