Why does this category exist? Almost all series we cover could be classified as "spin-off series", but this category just has four random series that are all in the main : Category:Game series anyway, so there's absolutely no point to this.

#MegaBowser64 If someone actually chose to put some effort into this category and make it a complete list, I think it could definitely be useful for a lot of people. The only reason it isn’t up to standards right now is because no one has bothered to work on it.

We're... Conflicted. On the one hand, in its current state, yeah, this is totally useless. In addition, Nintendo has basically no intent to distinguish between what a "spin-off series" is and what is a "main" series game (there is literally zero consensus about what the main line Mario games are), or what's a "main" series in its own right (like Yoshi or Wario). But also, it feels like we should at least try to figure something out before deleting this, because this could potentially be a decent category to have if we did that. Though, to be fair, it honestly might just be easier to axe the page in its entirety first and then rebuild it from the ground up, because the current state is. Questionable at best, and actively detrimental at worst. But like, a category that holds all the "Mario" branded spinoffs, like Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Mario Strikers, Mario Baseball, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, etc., all feel like a category that could be useful, and this could be that! ...Key word being "could". 11:19, May 16, 2023 (EDT)

:Like I said though, almost every series we cover could be classed as a "spin-off" (technically every Mario-branded series is a spin-off from Donkey Kong), so I think it's a pretty pointless distinction to make. :Category:Game series is just a more comprehensive version of this that completely avoids that argument. 11:30, May 16, 2023 (EDT)

Time to accept defeat: Another valuable category gone. I'm not saying it isn't crap right now, but if anybody with a free 10 minutes took the time to complete it, even I would literally use this category. It's a great idea to organize series like this. Oh well, the wiki can't be perfect, but we should at least be trying to improve it, not narrow down the content. :The category was useless and there is no saving it. "Spin-off" is a vague and subjective definition. Spectrogram (talk) 09:26, May 28, 2023 (EDT)
::Ok fine i tried. BOWSER... (talk) 09:50, May 28, 2023 (EDT)
:::I feel like a category for spin-off series would've been more useful on a wiki about all sorts of Nintendo (or gaming) franchises. See, this wiki covers four major franchises: Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Wario. Literally all of the other series from these four franchises is a spin-off of said four franchises. Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis... all of them are spin-offs to the Super Mario series. Reviving the Spin-off series category to cover all of the spin-off series would be practically pointless, since it would basically cover every series that is already in :Category:Game series, except for the main series, which we only have a handful of. In other words, keeping this category would be redundant. Not to mention it's also rather vague on whether Wario Land or WarioWare is the main Wario series, or if WarioWare is a spin-off series, too. 16:19, May 28, 2023 (EDT)
::::And depending on just how you define "spin-off", literally every series we cover except Donkey Kong (series) could be in the category's scope. 17:01, May 28, 2023 (EDT)
