Previously, I made a TPP to merge :Category:Musical themes and :Category:Songs. I canceled it because I realized instead I wanted to make this larger-scope proposal instead. Actually, it even has supplementary proposals 1 and 2, covering separate issues that don't have a reason to be bundled in with this one. | Previously, I made a TPP to merge :Category:Musical themes and :Category:Songs. :It seems kind of like an arbitrary thing to differentiate by. You'd be surprised by how fuzzy the line can be, too: DDR: Mario Mix alone has Always Smiling, a song with lyrics that aren't officially known; Hammer Dance, a song with constant vocal interjections but no real lyrics; and Pipe Pop, a song with a rap break that is completely unintelligible and probably on purpose. ::If the lyrics of Always Smiling can be heard and transcribed, then I don't understand why the lyrics "not being officially known" is an issue. Even if there's a rule that all song transcriptions have to be officially released, Always Smiling is still clearly a vocal song with lyrics. I do agree that the other two songs are a bit more blurry, but I suppose that Pipe Pop still could count as a Vocal song despite the unintelligibility, same goes for Hammer Dance despite only having interjections (wonder if that is a form of sampling?)<br>All in all, I don't really see why the two categories need to be merged, when renaming the categories to something like Category:Instrumental themes and Category:Vocal songs, and/or Category:Lyrical songs if necessary (could replace "themes" and "songs" with each other or "music") is just as viable of a solution, and your objections against keeping them split sounds like you're overthinking the issue. It's basically like the general opposition of your prior cancelled proposal says. 13:18, August 2, 2023 (EDT) | ::If the lyrics of Always Smiling can be heard and transcribed, then I don't understand why the lyrics "not being officially known" is an issue. I'm undecided on the proposal itself, but I would disagree that Paah does not belong in the musical category as it is arguably a short musical phrase in its own right (as part of a song). It does feel a little awkward for it to remain in the main category as it is, though. :And as the proposal states, the new category is for music, not music-related things. The better-fitting game mechanics category for paah works fine. 21:07, July 27, 2023 (EDT) | :And as the proposal states, the new category is for music, not music-related things.
